if your going to float use styrafoam blocks. thry are much sturtier than barrels. just put heavy stuff on the inside of the slider to wiegh it down and it's very hard to tell the difference from stationary.

Check the thrifties for an old flat fishing boat with a trailer. You can use that as a barge, or base and build a slider, or kicker to go on top. You can tow it with your boat where ever you want and anchor it in place. I've seen acouple in the paper for about $200. At that price they would cost probably as much as the drums you'd get from Lowes or Home Depot.

I stole some from a Dyalisis(sp) center , the place you go to get your kindnes cleaned or something. I went in to ask but no one would talk to me so i jsut went around back and took some. I need to go back and get some more. But also try the car wash idea.

To build a stationary slider, you would need to find a shallow area of water, about 4 feet deep. Then you stake it into the water with about three or four 8 foot 4x4's. That why you have the slider about 3 or 4 feet above water, and then you have no need for any barrels or foam. The rest of the construction would be the same then.

there aren't a lot of 4 feet deep places in western washington except ponds.
Trust me i have looked and floating slider is a lot better choice here.

plastic barrels work well because the styrofoam falls apart and gets waterlogged...plus...the styrofoam is so light and boyant that the kicker will get all squirrly and you when you hit it....gettin barrels are easy......go to any boat marina and just ask them politely....tell em its for a sciene fair project or somthin.....that always helps..........they are easier to get from marinas at the end of the boating season because they go through TONS or barrels of anti-freeze when they winteize boats....thats how i got my barrels

that is because he is full of poop. what are you doing with a goofball like him? oh well. you can use either. barrels are free at carwashes. i just asked the guys if they wanted to go wakeboarding sometime and they helped me load up as many as i wanted. free. styrofoam is really bad for the lake because it will breakup after a while. fishy's don't like it. if you fill barrels 1\4 full with water, the are almost like a fixed slider. sliders aren't easy to build. if you want to hit some you can come out to Sammamish and try mine. i built both of them for $50 a piece.

Otis...that half rainbow is EXACTLY what i want to build. Fifty bucks you say? Can you maybe private message me or email me (JMan551@hotmail.com) with some plans? Or did you snag those plans off the site somewheres? But when I saw that, it matched the one that i had "built" in my head, so I want it. How much would you charge me if I hired you to build it?haha One more question, if I wanted to make it lower, could I just fill the barrels up more? I've never hit one before, so thats why i wanted a half rainbow

thanks

JER

We got our barrels from a ranch for 5 bucks a piece... They say mountain dew all over them, so who knows where he got them from... We were going to get them for free from a car wash, but this was much quicker.

otiswunguy that half rainbow is nice-- I just finished building a slider yesterday, and want to make another one-- where did you get the plans?

You can get those barrels at chemical companies.. like places that sell cleaning supllies.. floor wax.. ect... I just built a floating slider... but went i went to hit it... i found out it leans and sways like crazy... we took it out and filled the barrels 1/4 full of water and it helped a little.. i know it wont be perfect... its a floating slider.. but.. how can i stabilize it more?

the coke idea sounds good. My dad works at coke and I went to the plant with him and they had a bunch of empty barrells and I asked him what they did with them and he said they threw them away. I'm gonna try to get him to give me some
