Hey guys

My name is Calum Moore, I’m 18 years old from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I’m coming to the U.S at the start of June to work in a Summer camp in Wisconsin teaching wakeboarding. As my visa only lasts 30 days before and after my time at camp I’m wanting to get a bit of traveling done. And I was after your guys help.

I’m planning on arriving around may 12th and I was wondering if there was anyone (or a few people) that were willing to line me up with some cheap accommodation (ie backapckers hostel) and possibly even take some time to show me around your local area, or help me out so I could do it myself as I know absolutely nothing about where I’m going. Heck even a ride would be awesome! I’m not fussy about where I’m traveling to as I want to experience the more local side to America rather than just sight seeing and being the typical tourist. Anything really. I’ll be more than grateful for you helping me out and I will be more than happy to return the favour if any of you decide to come down here.

Even if you can’t help me out some travel tips would be awesome as well as this is my first time travelling overseas. Haha. My goal is to see as much of America as i can, Meet new people that can give me a few tips on how to get around and go for a few rides if possible.

where in Wisconsin are you coming into, and were is the camp?

The camp is Camp Horseshoe in Rhinelander. Apparently it's pretty secluded out there

Rhinelander is not that bad! There is some fun things to do around there. Some nice lakes close by if you can hook up with some people to go out with!

seriously though mate. You will struggle to find backpacking hotels in the states, they just dont seem to have that sorta thing (not that I saw anyways) but as long as your'e pretty cool you will get along fine with the locals they are good value! just gotta get one or 2 hook ups and they will palm you off to someone else in another state (in my experience anyways!) if you're bored have a flick through this thread... definately some loose moments in there!!! http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=43997&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Wow that thread is long. As long as i can get pretty cheap accomodation i'll be happy. A few people on wakeworld have gotten back to me saying they can hook me up with a ride so i'm definitely stoked about that. I just really wanna meet the locals and get the true American 'feeling' rather than just seeing the sights.
