|
|
I am looking for a network attached storage device. I went out and bought a 1TB myworld book today. Plugged it up and the network lights would not even come on. So of course the software could not find it.
I assume that there is a problem with the device so I am going to take it back. Anyone have a suggestion on a better device to get? The mybook has some type of software that you need to use for remote access. To use all the features you need to upgrade or subscribe.
After some research on the web I found nothing but bad reviews on the product. I bought it on the recommendation of the kid in the store. I knew I should have done my homework before I went shopping..
Or.. I am just not techy enough to setup the device?? _________________ Wakeskating

Do you have an extra computer floating around - even an older one?

I have a Maxtor Shared Storage NAS device here. It does work as advertised, with very easy to use web based admin software. But alas, it's shortcoming is trying to access a very large music library over a 54g connection. I fear this would be a common problem with all NAS devices, but I don't have an easy way to set it up directly wired to the computers that access it. I assume it would work well in this configuration, especially if you use it's full capabilities - it has a 1000base-t port on it.
We don't use it anymore. In fact I have promised it to a friend to use at his office as a "poor man's server". I think it will work well in his all wired environment. _________________

also the mybookworlds 1TB can take up to three minutes to boot up before the lights come on - they will come on automatically, dont hit the button to turn it on.
hope that helps - I use a few of those mybookworlds at my office and they work fine. It's not ideal, and the Buffalo TeraStations seem to work a little better, but they are way more expensive, and more for business use than personal. _________________ http://www.dallaswakeboarding.com |
