fiberglass or teak

what do you like more, platforms

I don't know which is better but I really like the looks of the new fiberglass platforms on the new Nautiques.

Fiberglass doesn't need any maintenance or oiling; I don't know if it is the same with the teak, but on our nautique it has a fiberglass platform and all you have to do to remove the platform is pull out two pins.

I really like the way a teak deck looks on a boat...

but the fiberglass ones are probably easier to keep clean...

Teak looks better... it makes the boat look more classy. But, it's harder to keep clean.

I had a fiberglass platform and it looked great and was easy to keep clean, but after getting a boat with teak I wouldn't go back to fiberglass cause there load as hell, they just amplify the exhaust, On the other hand that was on a shitbox Moomba and now I have an MC so maybe there might be a design flaw, like Moomba in general.

I thought the same thing, The boat was much quieter with the platform off. Just a poor design.

so your going to say moombas makes a crappy boat because they use fiberglass platforms. I rather have my Mob V over any mastercraft. Ours doesn't make any noise while driving around.

How about one out of 1/ to 1/2 inch aluminum, polish that bad boy up, lay a little grip on it, now that would be trick!!

Wood does not absorb sound very well. Esspecially hardwoods like teak. And then when you put oil or any other type of finish on it, it becomes even less absorbant. To give you some perspective, un-finished wood has a sound absorbtion coefficent of 0.06. While finished wood is 0.03, comparative values of 0.03 are brick and glass.

I don't think the loudness of a boat is attributed to its platform material. I agree teak looks better. But if my fiberglass platform on my Moomba were made of teak I doubt that would have any effect on the loudness. Of course MC probably puts alot more engineering time into making their boat less noisy. Could be why MC costs alot more than a Moomba.

It's too bad you had a bad experience with your moomba's. We love ours and would recommend one to anyone.

I think teak looks more classy, but I'd rather have fiberglass. Maintaining that compared to teak leaves me with no comparison. My boat has teak and I can't wait till the make a fiberglass option. I'll be all over that. Technology is always on your side. Cleaning and oiling is busy work to me, Takes time from the water. I'd rather not have to do it.

A lot of teak that is harvested destroys natural habitats for wild animals such as auranatangs, Ok thats my tree hugger factoid of the day. Having said that I do agree that teak looks nice, but I would opt for the fibreglass.

I almost bought the teak option when i got the boat but went for the fiberglass when I started to think about the extra work involved. I also like the rubber pad on the fiberglass, I think I'll replace it with Gator Grip when it gets worn out.

I would definately go with the teak platform. It just looks better. As for the moomba i think it sucks that you cant stand on the motor cover, to put the rope on the tower.

I have a 2001/2002 Moomba Mobius, it was a dealer demo. We bought it from Ray the Supra/Moomba dealer out in BC. We bought it "As new" at the end of last season, so we get full warranty and what not at the price of a used boat. Awesome deal!

Yes I was at both boat shows this year. I was running around all giddy, man do I love boat shows!

Why do you say you can't you stand on the motor cover to put the rope on? I stand on mine all the time. I am a big dude too. Never had a problem. Now that I think about it, there have been times when there has been two or three people on the motor cover.

Yeah man, must be a segregated thing. That motor cover is HEAVY! It's built strong. Secondly, they have a seat built right into them, they are built to take someone's weight. I dunno why you wouldn't be able to stand on them.

Do you guys sell boat/wakeboard accessories? Do you carry any accessory lines, like skylon, boss etc?

I like fiberglass better also. Easy to maintain and the pad has very good traction.

Why would you need to stand on the motorbox? I can put the rope on the tower very easily without having to stand on anything in my Mobius. If for some reason I did need to get up higher, thats what the built in seat is for.

teak anyday.. hands down. My platfromw as in rough shape. I spent about 1-1 1/2 hours cleaning and oiling it. That is not that much work to get a platform to look like this:

I have also seen old supra fiberglass platforms, and they can look like crap when they fade and get oxidized

Teak Rules!! Lookin goode orzech. Once clean, your teak needs to be oiled once maybe twice a year. If oiled, no cleaning is required... I use Simco Natural. Doesn't get slimmy like fiberglass. Most boat company's are too cheap to use a $500+ dollar piece of wood. I've busted my @ss to many times on fiber

I know I can put the rope on without stepping up. It's just easier to have it right infront of you. The seats on a moomba are infront of the tower. The motor box is behind the tower. It is just easier to step up to put it on. Its a commanding view up there too!
