hyperliteimperial130, with the basic tricks, there's a slim-to-none chance of getting a sponsor. but at least you spell "sponsor" right.
go to www.intleague.com and check your state to see if there are any tournaments. check your boat dealer and board shop to see if they are going to sponsor some events during the season or if they know of any tournaments. |

hyperliteimperial130, sponsors also have a lot to do with where you are geographically.
holdsworth, I know by your tricks that you should have a nice list of sponsors, but I guess its hard to get exposure in Ohio? I dont know, but people with similiar trick lists as you out here in NC/VA have several by then. Then again, if theres too much of a scene, the competition is at a hugely elevated level and its hard again (ex. Orlando)
So it depends on what kind of wake scene there is where you are, amount (if any) of wake shops, boat dealers, etc. Best way is to get in some grassroots comps. INT league or comps put on by local shops and boat dealers like holdsworth said.
Biggest advice to give you though: Dont get wrapped up in trying to get a sponsor. It seems like the holy grail to aspiring wakeboarders but it can drive you nuts and put negativity in your wakeboarding life if its your main focus. Make sure you keep it fun. |

LFADAM, it's very hard to get exposure here in ohio. i do compete on the INT tour as much as possible but those are just small comps up here. i love it though and the people that run it and others that compete are awesome. i don't mind not having sponsors...i'm just out there having a good time and have gotten a few good friends out of it.
i have, however, ridden in front of some pros that have complimented my riding. one of them, robby jacques, actually helped me at the projects last year on my ts roll to blind. i saw him at the boat show in january and i refreshed his memory of who i was to see if he remembered me (which he did), and i told him about my plans for college in florida and just talked about other stuff.
this is about how the one part of the convo went, after i told him i was moving to daytona beach:
RJ- oh you're moving to florida?
me- yeah
RJ- ...do you have your cell phone on you?
me- ( ) yeah, why?
RJ- let me give you me cell phone number
me- (jaw almost dropping) you serious...alright!
RJ- once you get down there, give me a call and i'll hook you up with a ride
schweeeeeet!
i was like a little kid in a candy store. i kept my cool, of course, but i thought that was really awesome. i also "know" shaun murray from camps/clinics and stuff and he always recognizes me. robby is a coach at the boarding school, so i should be able to ride with shaun/robby/moye/others every now and then. just thinking about it now makes me excited. just an awesome feeling. |
