Like I said I'm coming from snowboarding my whole life to learning wakeboarding. I have a blackwidow board,,, cheap.
I'm wondering if there are any boards out there that would have more of a snowboard feel to them? I don't like how much weight I have to have on my back foot to keep an edge in.
Any help would be great. |

I've riden on the blackwidow and I would have to say that almost anything would be better. It is the equivalent of a walmart wakeboard (if there is such a thing). |

I guess that's exactly what I was looking for.....
Has anyone ridden one of these?
Are they hard to hold an edge? |

Wakeboarding is pretty different from snowboarding. I'm not sure I would go with a "snowboard" feeling board. They are usually harder to ride because they are loose (harder to edge for beginners) and don't have much traction.
If I were you I'd look into either a continuous rocker board or a mild 3-stage that has molded outside fins and a removable center fin. The molded outside fins should help with your edging and being able to take out the center fin will give you more traction to start, and once you've got your edging down you can take it out for a looser, snowboard feel.
If you check out most manufacturers websites they will specify this stuff (continuous vs 3-stage abrupt or mellow) and the fin configuration. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| Yeah I would say snowboarding and wakeboarding really have no similarities besides balance and even then its not really the same in my opinion. I wakeboarded for 3 years before I tried snowboarding and it took me about 3 good full days of snowboarding before I was able to get down the mountain carving heelside and toeside without falling as for wakeboarding it took me about a full day to learn how to standup and I didn't really get into jumping wake untill my second year wakeboarding. Mainly due to because of not knowing what was good or bad gear and needing a better boat. But anyways who know to each his own it might be easier for you than me so good luck! |

I only have a jet ski and ride in the ocean.....I ride a tow surf board too.
I can ride ok, and jump a wake, but I always liked the surf board more since it tracks a line better since it has big old fins.
Although I would like to wakeboard MORE. I guess I look for a molded fin Like you were talking about.
Thanks for the help. aloha |

Wakeboarding and snowboaring-not the same??? Blasphemy. Matter of fact I was just reading in Wakeboarding Magazine about something called the GREAT TRIFECTA...SNOW/WAKE/SKATE. Being a Master at each one will in turn help the other one out.
It is much much easier to teach someone how to wakeboard that knows how to snowboard. It took me two times to try and get up on a wakeboard. I tried to teach my buddy-who doesn't snowboard...hell, I about ran out of gas trying to get him up.
I contribute my abilities on a snowboard to things I've been able to accomplish on a wakeboard. Cannot wait to see how this summer turns out after such a kick ass year on the mountain.
I can say the same for my daughter. She learned to go wake to wake this year-nothing superspecial. But she took her abilities to the snow and learned to carve and hit tabletops on the mountain. Can't wait to see her on the water this year either.
Don't know how that ROAM board would feel; but IMO, wake is almost easier, you can cheat with the handle, for snowboarding, you have to begin to initiate tricks with your body. While your 'walmart' board may suck...my guess is, you can use it; realize you love it-then buy a bling board.
Good luck! |

I snowboarded for the first time this past January. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that my wakeboarding skillz (limited though they may be ) enabled me to pick up snowboarding pretty quickly. And man...I am hooked!
I got to snowboard twice this year (4 days in January, 3 days in February) but next winter I'm going out west, probably to Colorado. Can't wait! _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

| I started snowboarding this year for the first time and I would have to say wakeboarding helped A TON! After all the horror stories I heard about first experiences snowboarding I was dreading the first day but actually felt really comfortable after about an hour. It definately helps learning on a day with some powder. Everyone asks me now which I like more and I actually think I prefer snowboarding. Heading to Brighton next week!!!! |

| Powder is NICE! You don't have to worry so much about catching edges. I am braver on the mountain; would rather biff there than in the water. I don't think I like one better than the other-but as each season wraps up, I look forward to the upcoming opposite season. Then throw moto in between... |

Stick with a wakeboard wakeboard, not a snowboard wakeboard. I find wakeboarding much easier than snow, and you will catch on quickly if you snowboard.
And about the comment one sport helping the other out. I would say learning wakeboarding first would be the least helpful for the other two honestly. Wakeboarding you're up and jumping within a day, snowboarding, much greater learning curve and balance. Not bad to have one under your belt though. |

I dont think a roam and snowboard ride like each other at all.
The roam has flex like a snowboard but doesn't have any of the edge feel. They feel very different IMO.... |
