i should bookmark that link and paste into the topics that people complain about their tiny wakes.
this goes to show that YOU make the tricks work, not the wake.
good post on the WakeboardReport by Erik.
thanks whitlecj for posting it. |

I love when he does those super short cut ins. It isn't really a progressive edge and he just charges it. Just goes to show how time has progressed the sport with ideas like progressive edging, newer tech in boats and boards, and definetly tricks. Not many grabs goin down. Cool Vid All The Way!!!! _________________
nessie is my homeboy so its all gravy
|

I'm glad you guys like the video. I have the super hi-res version (well, relative to what Google Video did to that thing). But yeah - like I said in the post, us wake size elitists (me among them, for sure) should take note of what this guy is pulling off behind what we joke on here as a Bassmaster (its actually a Malibu Flightcraft I believe). The boat is designed to produce the smallest wake possible and Scott hits a double up and launches about 12 feet into the air at one point. And nails most if not all of the inverts in his quiver with the standard wake. No ballast. Just 4 dudes.
I also thought it was funny that while the various inverts impressed people in the boat, the lineover/stepover tricks BLEW THEIR MINDS.
Also please know that I say about 10 audible words in this video, mostly telling people to move so the guy could get an even wake, and I think I said "f***ing mobius" at one point because it was the first I had ever seen. Then he did one switch. Sandal plates. Directional board. The rest of the voice over you hear is just some guy that was at the clinic and talked a lot. His color commentary wasn't very useful but in parts it was funny so I left it in rather than add an audio track.
I will try to SendSpace the full AVI so that people can have it for archival purposes. That was an awesome day and I am glad you guys are enjoying it. Its a bit long but I didn't want to edit it down too much and cut out parts that may have been of interest to someone out there so I put up the whole thing. Kudos to Google Video for not enforcing a time limit.
Glad you're enjoying it. That was the point.
It's a good idea to press play, and go get a soda or beer and let it load, then watch it. It takes a little while to fully buffer and play without any stop/starts. |

I was just having a debate on dallaswakeboarding.com over people who need oversized wakes. This would be great fodder for my argument. Damn impressive what technique will do when the elements aren't there. Most of us are spoiled POS. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

It definitely drives home the "skill is more important than equipment" point.
Scott Byerly is by any definition a legend of this sport. Nice to see he's still going strong as ever and has become a true mover and shaker. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

you know what?? It's really easy to not hit the submit button....
funny part about your clever retort is that was shot while you were an itch in your daddy's shorts, yet the additude in the post seems like you are jr. know it all.....
Nice addition to your site Erik.....brings back all kinds of memories. |

You dumbasss that is a progressive edge. This should be an instructional video on the foundation of a progressive edge and just how little space you actually need to charge the wake. Technique is 90% of wakeboarding.
I could care less who lands a hucked 1080 or a 1260, or does a doubletruckdriverwhirlybirdswitchfakietorevert, Byerly was, is and always will be the man in this sport. He did so much more with so much less than anyone could come close to today. _________________

Wow what a great video it just help reaffirm his legen status. Byerly skills were and still are sick.
I love the speed adjustments needed just make me realize of overspoiled we are with a lot of our current setups.
Anyways, great video addition Erik |

Should be obligatory viewing not only in the large wake/tower debates, but also in the many and various "I need to upgrade my 2007 pro kit to 2008 pro kit to help me land that elusive HS180 - what shall I get?" debates... I remember when I was at school (a long time ago now sadly) and I used to hanker after all the new windsurfing kit (eek wrong-sport-mentioning-crime), seeing a vid of Robby Naish forward looping a huge old-school raceboard. And it kinda made me realise that I needed to get out there and work on my technique a bit more and worry about the latest model board and all the latest magazine reviews a bit less...
Byerly cranking that horrible piece of plywood with bungees for boots was awesome. I will think of it every time I see some guy with "all the gear and no idea" dragging round the cable...
