Keep the handle in close to your hips. It will help you get more pop, keep your spin on axis and the handle wont get pulled out of your hands because your balenced.

Make sure that you are initiating the spin by pulling the handle to your back hip. Dont throw the spin off the wake. When you pass the handle, pull it to your lower back as close to your body as you can. The closer it is to your lower back, the easier is is to grab the pass.

if you want help to pass off the water get a handle and attach a 10 lbs weight to it and just keep passing it around your back or under your bum whichever feels better.

What kinda handle are you usin? Is it a reg tow cable or wake specific? tow cables stretch so when you become almost weightless the rope is allowed to unstretch which will pull the handle away from you. A new wake rope will cost around 60-100 which will be quick fix for this situation and will also help on other tricks.

unless you want to learn late 3's before regular ones don't listen to that last post. I would go with what pilot_ryder and wakeboardwillis said. There posts are the most helpful. Doing lots of surface 3's will also help you get the idea of weight transfer when you are spinning. Just slow the boat down and don't rush the spin.

the way i learned it was i would hit the wake, start my rotation, let the rope go and just try to land on axis. but if the rope is being pulled away from you get gloves, or possibly you just need to hold it tighter and closer to your body,.

i find when i get hs3 i approach the wake quite fast, ease off my edge a little as i pop off the wake, then when i have initated the jump, pull on the handle hard across the front of my body. From here you just float round and try your best to find the handle.

It took me a while to even find where the handle is to begin with, i tried on land and all that, but the only way to get it consistent is to do it behind a boat.

So main points, Edge hard, ease off just before you leave the wake. Pull the handle hard across the body (to back hip) then reach with your lead hand.

If you can grab hold of the handle, then hang on for all its worth. If you can get the rotation and the handle, you have done the hard bit. Now just stop letting go!

hope that helps

when you spin, allow your elbow to fold so that the handle lands in the small of your back, it makes it easy to grab and if its always in the same spot you will get muscle memory for you to grab the rope without thinking,

the biggest mistake people make when trying 3's is they chuck it off the wake. you start the rotation at the peak of your jump. or at leaste make sure you have completely left the wake.

a few drills i have found help (do them in this order):

1. do a w2w jump, but at the peack of your jump; pull the hand in to your waste ( dont spin, just pull it in)

2. next w2w jump, reach the peak of your jump; pull the handle to your hip and do a 180(really keep the handle in close to your body).

3. while switch, stop in the middle of the wake(behind the boat). pull the handle (with both hands) to your front hip, then reach around and grab it with your back hand (but don't do a surface bs 180). do this a few times; it gives you an idea of where the handle will be. It teaches you to pull hard and use the handle for the rotation.

4. now try a 3! wait until the peack of your jump, pull the handle to your hip with 2 hands and reach around and grab it.

i came up with these drills after many of my friends were having trouble with 3's. they to work very well! good luck

Cut in slower and kind of bent over more..push more off the wake causing there to be less load on the line...
