currently i ride 06 hyperlite 3ds bindings and like them pretty much. i can get a killer deal on some 07 liquid force shane ct's or limited edition watson ot's. the watson's are 10 bucks cheaper. i've never ridden liquid force bindings before but i've read the reviews and they seem good. can anybody give any recommendations? i'm an intermediate rider at best so is the whole open toe / closed toe thing really that important? what would you do?

Try them on and see how you like them. For me I prefer the stiffer footbed of HL to the squishy feel of LF. For me and my feet I can't stand LF bindings. Only you can decide what you like.
