|
|
| I got a new Pearl, and when I try to connect it to my computer nothing happens. I installed the blackberry software from the CD. I have the latest version of desktop manger(4.3). When I open the manager it says I am disconnected, also when I scan for the device nothing shows up. I have tried reinstalling it, but it just does the same thing. Thanks in advance. |

still nothing doing?
i know stupid - but is your device turned on?
Also - you can go into your desktop manager and click on options connection settings and find the connection in the drop down menu or click detect. _________________ www.highrollerwakeboarding.com |

| Alter Ego, yeh the device is turned on, and I have tried the desktop manager detect button. Still wont work, plus I am running Vista. Another thing I forgot is when I plug it in, I hear the duh dunk sound, then the disconnection sound like 5 seconds after. |

is there another pc you can try to plug it into? See if it detects it and then keeps the connection, instead of dropping it?
pearls suck anyway - get an 8800 series! _________________ The answer is D - All of the above. |

| Try to re-boot the computer. This will usually re-set the device managers, and then you can re-connect. |

Alter Ego, still nothing but thanks for trying to help
Blue22V, tried that numerous times
I just read some where that if you connect your BB to your computer before installing Desktop manager then it can screw up the connection. Which I did. It says you will need to reinstall your USB, how do I do that? Do I just click uninstall in the Device Manager? |

kdip - who is your service provider? you can call into their support center and they should solve it for you. If they can't do it on the phone right away they will log it and get back to you after escalating back to RIM support. _________________ www.highrollerwakeboarding.com |

Alter Ego, are all the blackberry prices determined by individual carriers? I know Rogers nad Bell have the odd deal where they advertise a free 80whaterver-hundred series and $15/month... but do you know what you're actually looking at paying if you want basic email service and things you might use with one?
I thought of getting one but I really don't want an $80 phone bill every month. I'm guessing they add on fees for connecting to the network and such? |

Alter Ego, Telus is my provider
ontrider, I got a plan that gets unlimited web browsing/text messaging. I know it's less then $80 a month. And it has free calls after 6:00PM and free calls on weekends. |

| kdip, that sounds alright. All the phone contracts are so confusing now and riddled with stipulations of when you can do what, how much, how often... I hate it. |

| I've got a BB that I use as a tethered modem with my laptop that has Vista. Sometimes I have to completely shut the computer down to get it to connect. The BB software hates Vista, and I do too. |

ontrider - the carriers determine the prices to market for the both the device and the service (as with all phones)
The device price can range from $0 up to $400 depending on the current promo or the type of contract you sign up to.
As for the service price RIM has been working to bring the monthly BlackBerry price down for customers with carriers.
The $15 plan is for Email only. I believe you can get a plan for about $30 bucks a month that includes email and web browsing up to about 4Mb a month. You will see a lot of different options coming up for BB prices. I have lots of friends that have devices from Bell, Rogers, Telus and they can keep their bill under $40 a month + whatever voice charges they have. _________________ www.highrollerwakeboarding.com |
