The only time I've ever flipped when trying raleys on a skate is when I don't keep my eyes on the boat. If you look at the boat the whole time you should stay leveled out. If you look to either side you flip over either doing a front flip or a huge laid out backroll. Just keep your eyes on the tower and when you feel a tug pull yourself backdown. It should feel almost natural. Just so you know you better have it down on a skate before you take it to a board because it feels a lot different pulling down the weight of a board than just your own feet.

The way I learned them...not perfected on the board yet was this:
Tramp
Skate (Do this the most)
Board (you have to go all or nothing here)

Let your arms go out away from your chest. Usually when you jump your keep your arms bent and low, let them float out in front of you and your body will naturally float back.

Thats all I got, getting the board back down is something I have not mastered ha.

hmm ill have to try this as well, every attempt i do i end up soaring my legs over my head and lading a massive front roll to revert like 10' into the flats, looks pretty sick and i love the trick, but its the raley im after dammit! lol

by tryin to learn a raley i actually discoverd the potential for a new trick lol

FWIW, I found that wearing gloves was the key to avoiding the laid out, lose the handle, end up endoing over, crash in the flats. The raley hit was popping the handle out of my hands everytime. A set of gloves, while not very cool, was the secret for me. I'd rather look a bit silly and throw raleys than look core and crash hard.

Keep equal pressure on both feet on the way in...this will keep you balanced..as someone else said, look at the boat until you get them dialed..then when you feel the "tug" try to break the handle over your knee. This will get the board down and should be a good landing...good luck..

this is how i learned them:

use a wakeskate. this will get you used to the motion of the raley and body position and keeping your body straight. since you're flipping, you'[re not really committing to the trick at all, you're just throwing your legs back. it's not hard, just a different feeling. keep your body straight the whole time, don't turn your shoulders down at all, just keep everything straight out and pull the rope down towards the water while pulling your knees in.

now to the board.

pull the rope in to about 65-70 feet. slow the boat down to a speed where edging into the wake like you would a raley takes you wake to wake. take a few wake to wake jumps to get comfortable. when you go to do the raley, just let it fly. i know this sounds scary and all, but that's really the only way to learn it on the board. since you're going wake to wake, no need to worry on the landing too much. once you get comfortable doing this, speed the boat up a little more each time you try it. once you got that, put the rope back and speed up to normal riding speed. i had the raley perfected the day i started doing them, no lie.
