home safe and sound

What a cool trip to pick up the car. 1250 miles from Reno to Calgary.

A couple of things I learned on the trip. Anything over 100 mph you can be thrown in jail in Montana. I got pulled over doing 105 in a 65 mph zone, not good. The state patrol said because it was Christmas he would let me off with a ticket of 100 in a 75 zone. 70 bucks in cash later I was back on the road. I gotta say. doing the speed limit of 75 after averaging 100-120 mph for 1000 miles seems like you're crawling.

Another think I learned. Not a winter car. I got stuck in my aunt's yard out on the ranch in about 2 inches of snow. We had to dig a trench to get the car out. After a 20 your trip the last thing you want to do is dig a trench in the snow to have to go another 100 miles.

Top gun is COOL holy crap. I think I want to be a Top gun pilot. It might be a little late for that. The person I bought the car off was great. Took us for a full tour of the Top gun base. I couldn't believe how small the cockpits are in those F18's. He said he would have loved to take me up but it pretty much takes an act of GOD to get a person up in the planes these days. His wife hasn't even been for a ride in one.

All in all a fantastic trip. Reno is pretty small and the strip was dead. They're still ok with taking your money though. I think i dropped a couple of hundred on the tables. NOthing new there.

Here's some pics

EVERYONE have a great Christmas. Be safe

Pat

Bambamski, how'd those Good Years handle the snow? Laughing

Congrats, when I was growing up I always wanted a C4 vette, I must say that I am really impressed with the C6 as well. Probably one of the few American cars I would ever consider purchasing.

It has become that Craig, hence the reasoning behind the emphasis on "Christ" in Christmas. But I don't want to get into an argument over it as they rarely lead to anything productive.

Sweet ride Bambaski - what better way to break in your new car than to take it on a road trip!

Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Holidays to you folks who resent the religious "origins" of the holiday Wink

Everybody loves runflats. Fuggin Flintstone rock tires when they are cold and not much better warmed up.

Bambamski, looks like an awesome trip man. Where did you stay in Reno? Grand Sierra?

DRAGON88,

It's gotta rank up there as the worst handling snow car ever? I got pretty lucky with the weather, if we would have run into any snow during the trip there's no way I would have made it. The car does have the traction control but once we were stuck that didn't help one bit. You really don't realize how wide those back tires are until you have to dig them out.

chavez,

We stayed at the Grand Serria. The place was DEAD. I played a little black jack the night we got in till about 2 in the morning. My guess would be that there was less than 30 people in the entire casino. It was a pretty nice hotel though, our room was amazing. From what I can gather it was one of the suites that has been recently renovated in the top 10 floors of the hotel. Floor to ceiling marble in the bathroom, huge room with a king size bed, desk, couch, big fridge, microwave, 2 40 inch plazma TV's. a couple of strategically placed mirrors... Wink Super nice room, thanks for the heads up. and all for 70 bucks a night. CRAZY cheap.

We drove down and checked out the strip. It looked really dead down there as well so I guess it was the time of the year. I think I'd stay downtown next time to see if that would be any better. It's no vegas though so maybe I shouldn't compare the two.

I'm not even sure if those tires are the run flats?? I guess I'll have to figure that out now. It will be a couple of months before I can try them out anyways.

Bambamski, if they are the stock tires, they are most likely the run-flats. Next tires, go for some non-run-flats and toss a can of fix-a-flat and your AAA card (or Canuck equivalent) in the car.

Anyhow, the GS is really nice post-remodel. Glad you liked your room. Surprised there weren't more people in there with the holiday weekend and all the recent snow. The "strip" in Reno ain't much, but the Silver Legacy/Eldo/Circus combo area (where all three are connected) is nice. There are some decent places to hang out in there. Other than that, yawn.

In contrast, Vegas was flat out PACKED.

Yeah, and I can't believe how fast they recognize you if you come back in after they kick you out. We got stopped after about 10 steps at every entrance...the next day! Once you're 86ed from there, there's pretty much nothing to do. I guess I need to get some more mature friends.
