ya you can ride them off road or pretty much anywhere. they are bigger have bigger heavy duty wheels and straps unlike skateboards. they are fun but kinda tuff. |

They're basically big skateboards with big trucks, big rubber wheels and strap-type things on top to keep you locked in.
At the camp I work at in the summer there's a hill (almost like a halfpipe) used for tubing in the winter. Last summer for the last week of camp we had these stations set up all over the camp for different teams to compete at. At one a kid from your team had to do the best belly-flop from a 20 foot high swim platform. Another one one kid had to ride a mountain bike on like 4" wide planks of wood across a stream. All of this was done at night, with the stations lighted only by a couple portable work-shop type lights. So anyways, the tube hill... they put hay along the sides and had kids ride down it on one of these earthboards. The thing about these boards is that you can't stop, and your feet are strapped in. So girls would try it being all cocky and fly down only to bail SO HARD.... guys did too of course... Saw some crazy falls that nite! It was SICK... |

The reason why I was asking, is :
I live down some dirt roads. I mean there is absolutely NO place to skateboard. It's kinda hilly and rocky. The only time i get to skateboard is when i go to my grandmothers house. So would you recommend me gettin an earthboard? I mean, could I use it here, at my house? Just because they have bigger wheels, it doesnt seem like they would work offroad unles going down a steep hill. any advice? _________________ Lizzard Boarder

Yea you really need a hill for them to work properly. You could technically push it like a normal skateboard, but you'd just be able to ride it. It would be virtually impossible to do any tricks. Unfortunately if you're looking to skate (flip tricks, grinding, and whatnot) it doesn't sound like your neighborhood would be the best place for it... |

So lemme see if I understand this. Lizzard, you wanna pick up skating but you don't have a good surface to do traditional skateboarding. So you're looking into something that you can ride on rocks & gravel but you don't like the idea of just bombing a hill, you wanna bust flip tricks & stuff. How am I doing so far?
If you're looking to get into shortboard skating to do flip tricks & whatnot you have a couple different options. If you have a paved garage you can maybe ask your parents to let you skate in there. Alternatively, you can maybe buy some big plywood sheets & lay them down on the dirt/rocks & practice on those.
Rodney Mullen became one of the most influential skaters in history by being stuck in a similar situation as you so don't give up! |

no garage, no plywood sheets, im short on money.ahhhhh! lol im lost. ill just have to spend alot of time at my grandmothers. i have a very narrow sidewalk circling my swimming pool -thats it. its very hard to skate there. _________________ Lizzard Boarder

Hmmm, I'm gonna assume your parents aren't hot on the idea of skating since most parents aren't. That means they won't be any help if you ask them to buy the wood to support your habit. I wouldn't recommend skating around the pool just 'cuz if you slam & the board goes in the pool that ruins the deck & bearings.
I guess you'll hafta go to your grandma's or find some other type of hard flat surface that you can lay out. |
