A direct response to the ridiculous policies of the RIAA?

Dave W, GOD BLESS RADIOHEAD!
While I never loved them, this is amazing.
I hope more bands follow this model. I am interested in the download and to pay them just so that other bands will see the value in this. _________________ www.integrity-wake.com |

I guess Prince has done this too. According to the news report I saw this morning, I don't believe Radiohead is pulling any punches about this being a big "FU" to the recording industry. We've already discussed the ridiculousness of the RIAA's we don't want to work so we'll just sue business model in this forum. Bands like Prince and Radiohead are just skipping over all the record label nonsense and getting directly to what actually pays their bills: ticket sales at concerts. _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? What about the bands that don't have the name recognition of Radiohead? Do they join an independent website? I'm surprised there aren't more internet only record labels.
This may work for Radiohead but not Prince BECAUSE HIS MUSIC F-ING SUCKS!!!!! _________________ Steal My Book

Can't be a bad thing for us as far as I can see....
All I hope for is the ability to give the music back to the people.
Let THE PEOPLE decide what is good and what is not...
I'm tired of all the cookie cutter over produced band crap they play on the radio and those bands being the only ones people will sign to record deals...
Of course I hate big business anyway so any time we can stick it to tha man, I'm all for it.
"But Sr. you are tha man" - remember that commercial I forget what it was for but I would laugh hard as hell every time I saw it.... _________________ PEACE

I think you just came up with a very innovative idea. Awesome actually. I bet there are thousands of people that would front capital for that idea. I would and I would participate. Would it be a subscription type deal for bands?
Another band that has been a proponent for better control of it's music is Fugazi. They still are on a lesser label even after all these years. I heard once that their contract requires that any of their albums be sold for $10 or less at retail. |

Not a fan of Prince either, just thought I'd mention it to show that Radiohead isn't the only band doing it.
Is there a keyboard character that looks like his new name? _________________ How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough. |

Dave W, No prob. I just hate Prince and how he is revered as being soooo good when in actuality his music is terrible.
oshensurfer, Yeah, I was thinking that too. I think the band would get a cut of the sales (A big cut), but they would be responsible for things like setting up a page for the band and such. _________________ Steal My Book

Good lord, KEXP (see avatar) has been playing through all the tracks this morning. Thom and Co. never dissapoint, there are not many in the history of modern music that have been able to do it like they have. Bravo. _________________

jryoung and toothpick, It's really really good.
One or two of the songs kinda remind me of Iron & Wine in a weird sort of way. Better though.
Really mellow, but a much better mix of electronic and standard instruments on this one than in the past. Even has a tinge of jazz guitar. I don't see myself getting sick of this one any time soon. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

Oh man I've been waiting for weeks and no lucky with logging into. Only problem I see is that most people are not honest and won't pay one red cent, no matter how great the record is. Now if Radiohead can beat the Rolling Stones record and gross $558,000,000 on tour, the boys will be in TALL GREEN COTTON! _________________ I hope the weather is calm as you sail up your heavenly stream |

oshensurfer,
It'll be interesting to see how it goes. I know when I get to listen to it I'll be paying money for the actual CD with the B side singles.
Besides Oasis, Radiohead offers some of the best Wakeboarding music out there. _________________ I hope the weather is calm as you sail up your heavenly stream |

Just out of interest how did Prince release his latest album in the US? He released it free in a tabloid newspaper here.... it just came free with the paper! It was pretty badly received and many felt it was done because the album would flop if sold so this was a way of getting it out there without the shame.
I'm trying to get the Radiohead album now but it's taking forever! might have to return in a few days and try again... _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

oshensurfer, myspace has become a huge resource for aspiring musicians,
You can contact them directly, get their music, tour dates and also find other bands from their friends.
myspace is great for aspiring musicians, _________________ www.integrity-wake.com |

Whats really amazing is the support. You get to chose your price, and the average payment for the album is $10.71 so far. Thats better than what they would get on itunes! _________________ TONA

I paid 5 pounds and 45 pence all in. $11.08 US. And yes, that's much more than they would have made through a label.
I think the average contracts are about $.70 per album plus some sort of royalties, no? _________________ (insert funny chit here) |

I tried to pay £5.00.... but it crashed and STILL isn't letting me finish my purchase 24 hours later...
Anyone got a bad word or heard a bad review yet?? Everyone seems to be digging it from what I've heard/seen. _________________ www.AxisBoats.co.uk | www.Malibu-Boats.co.uk |

muckmeister, oshensurfer, there's another website called FameCast where aspiring bands can compete for recognition. It's still pretty new, but growing. Nevertheless there are some awesome bands on there. And there will be a way to purchase the artists' music from the site if it's not in place already. The best part is that it is solely for the exposure of small artists, FameCast owns nothing, just helps get the name/music out there to other people.

Well, I suppose I'm a bit annoyed by this info. I haven't listened on my home stereo yet, but I never thought I needed to check bitrate before buying direct. I likely would have bought the physical CD if I new this.. But, hey it sounds good on my computer. ....and the album is still awesome. _________________ (insert funny chit here) |
