Hey.
I just bought a boat with the intention of spending more quality time with my kids (I have 13, 12 and 6 year olds). The boat I bought is a late 70's twin tunnel hull ski boat with a 200HP Merc Black Max, stainless prop at 20* pitch. Will do over 60MPH without trouble. It has the ski tower already, and comes with some skis, ropes etc. I was really just thinking about riding around, pulling tubes and kneeboarding. Then I saw something about wakeboarding on the net. Since my kids all snoboard I figured this might be better. Sure looks cool. Anyhow, I am wondering about what sizes are right for different height/weight, if a certain type of prop or attachment would produce a better wake for wakeboarding. Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
JD |

Well, I have two 15 gallon fuel tanks and a buttload of big fat friends. Think that'll do it? _________________ 1997 Celebrity 200 20' 350 Mercruiser

WakeUpDead,
Congrats on the boat, I am sure you will enjoy it very much.
If your kids haven't wakeboarded before, you won't need to worry too much about the wake size right away anyway. There is a board sizer on the homepage here and if you google it it will come up as well. 200 horses will do you guys just fine, a high5 prop is good and I run a 4 blade aluminum at 18 degrees which is good on my boat.
I think when you first get them out on it, trial and error will give you the best idea of what you want. Try and find a shop that will let your kids demo the boards if possible, it could save you some cash and some headache.
Good Lcuk to you and enjoy!!

I know there are attachments that will allow me to pick up speed. Are there attachments that will give me a better wake? I am not too concerned now as I am just learning and probably won't be doing any flips or anything anyway, lol. But my kids are going to want to get hard after it, and probably in a hurry. _________________ 1997 Celebrity 200 20' 350 Mercruiser

There are they are callded "fat sacks" and they are additonal ballast you fill up with lake water and drain before you put your boat on the trailer do a search on this site there is plenty of info on it or talk to your local board shop. Once people start jumping I would start by buying a 600lb sack and a pump and go from there. Also, on your boat trimming the engine helps shape the wake. You pretty much want to get the wake so it is not washed out.
Good luck have fun. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

Dude, that's so awesome. Thanks for the help guys. I have not even really seen anyone wakeboard. Is the wake just to make it more fun, and let you do tricks? Or is a wake necessary for even staying up on a wakeboard? _________________ 1997 Celebrity 200 20' 350 Mercruiser

The wake is to make it fun, otherwise you have nothing to jump, you'd just be riding around doing ollies and jumping over obstacles. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/wannabess

WakeUpDead, I highly recommend the DVD set called "The Book" It is one of the best if not the very best instructional DVDs out there for wakeboarding. It will take a lot of the guesswork out of it for you and your youngsters who want to wakeboard.. Just a thought . Good luck!

WakeUpDead, I completely agree with joe navy. I just recently bought the book. It is just amazing. I cover pretty much everything you'll ever need to know about wakeboarding. It tells you how it originated and setting up a wakeboard setup, all the way to landing crow mobes and other inverts. Well worth the time and money to buy it. _________________ http://www.learnwake.com/amember/go.php?r=253&i=l1 |

Heya Gang.
I decided to revive this old dead thread rather than making a new one. Thanks for all your help back when I was getting started. I have learned that my Stiletto is a great ski-boat but doesn't make a fun wake at all. My wife and kids have picked up the sport and I have pulled some friends too, but I decided it was time to take it up a notch. I recently bought a 97 Celebrity 200. The first time I took it out and cruised it around looking at the wake I practically shat myself. Seriously. So now I want to buy a Wakeboard Tower. Can some of you give me your opinions about the best kind to get and why?
Thanks again,
Wake Up Dead

Hey, congrats on getting into the sport and congrats on the new boat. You'll get lots of different responses regarding towers, but its unlikely you'll find anyone who actually owns a Monster Tower that doesn't love it. I love my Monster. Great price, great quality, easy to install, and fantastic customer service.
Rock on!! _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com
