Questions about buying a boat?

Hi guys im new to wakeboarding only been about 10 times last summer. This summer im planing on wakeboarding every day. I want to buy a boat within the next month. The problem is I am still in college and only work part time so i only have about 2 or 3k to spend on a boat. Sad

I live in washington state and i found a couple that im looking at. Particullary i have questions about an 87 searay 17' open bow with an 130 merc for $3000. I am also new to boating so here are some Q's.

Does sea ray make good boats?
Is $3000 a resonable price?
Could i get a better boat for my money?
m guessing a 130 merc is an engine will it have enough to get me out of the water?
With some work could it produce a good wake?

if you are just learning, ask if he'll take you out on the boat first and see if it will get you out of the water. something is better than nothing. you could get the boat and still save some money then sell the boat and get a better boat. i hate being without a boat. the boat you are looking at isn't the best boat for wakeboarding but if you can afford it and you can ride behind it then it might be worth it. just my 2 cents.

In College, we had a 15 ft POS tri-hull with an outboard 125. We went to Home Depot to buy some pipe and wire to make a pylon. Screwed it right to the bottom of the boat. Then put some pipe cover around the pole to make it look a little better. hooked the wire to the bow of the boat. It almost looked real, but not quite.

For weight, we used kegs and trash cans we would fill up with water. You had to move the trash can to the right side of the boat if you wanted to work on healside tricks and to the left side if you wanted to work on toeside.

Oh yeah, to get on plane, it was pretty common practice that you had to move everybody, including the driver, to the bow of the boat.

It was the most ghetto set-up you have ever seen. But, it worked. And, we got to board just about everyday. I would have much rather been behind that boat then no boat at all.

Hey if you have areally good frieand get him to go in with you if both of ou have 3000 then you should be able to get a older malibu or natique. My brother and i went in together and got ours that wayand we got a 1989 malibu sunsetter for 6500 with 300 hours on it
