About once every 3-4 jumps I pull one of these

Hard to tell on that... but you slide out sideways almost. You need to edge away from the wake when you land. A good way to practice this is when you jump, look in the direction you are going, across the wake at the opposite shorline. Don't look down.

My suggestion is to forget about the height and pop (for now) and practice edging all the way across both wakes. Then when you add air keep the edges going. It seems to me that you are not keeping a HS edge after you land (As the previous poster also said).

I agree with abrider take small steps first. It will help you out a lot in the long run with progression.
