On christmas day I got a phone call. It was the guy with the barn we were storing our boat in. Turns out the heavy snow and sleet cause the roof to colapse. He said it was nothing major and some pros would remove the rubbage. Two days later he called again. He said that it suffered some minor damage. There is a crack in the windsheild. So we think hell we have insurance how much can a windsheild crack be? So I get up there and the thing is DEMOLISHED!!! The cover was still on and we could not see the windsheild under it (which was a very bad sign). The fiber glass had two 5 ft cracks. The trailer is bent and a row of rollers snaped off. And the Cuddy doors snapped off. Right now the insurance is paying the value and giving us back the boat. But the sick part was I was thinking about dropping the insurance over the winter.
MORAL: If you love your boat get it insured.
btw: if anyone wants to buy an unharmed Mercurser I/O 175HP V-6 4.3L boat engine give me a ring |

We got our boat insured just for the ride from ohio. It was jan 18 and somewhat snowy so incase we went in a ditch or something it would be covered.
Is the insurance company covering all of the damges completely? _________________ GOT NAUTIQUE? |

Cuz I wasnt in the boat when it happend. We were at the BYT...and my dad drove it the whole day like that just cuz of shuan...HAHA |

We had a trip where 2 boats suffered a total of $5,500 in damages on Saturday morning. Luckily (or smartly) both had insurance and everything was covered less their deductible.
In CA, you have to liability at least, just like a car. If you finance then the bank will require you to have full coverage to protect their interest. It's a lot cheaper to insure a boat than a car. |

The storage company's insurance should pay that claim, not yours.
Don't cancell your insurance for the winter. Come spring and you try to go through that same company again, they could have a reason to decline.
Your agent should have asked about a lay up period. The longer the lay up cheaper premium.
Plus you don't have to pay another down payment and you get renewal discounts(some companies). |

State to state things differ I got a good rate through Grange Mutual, but they only write business in seven states and Forida's not one of them.
Try Progressive or Foremost Insurance Group. Like I said, rates differ very much from state to state.
TN, KY and IL have a high risk surcharge. |

Sorry to hear about the boat, good luck with the insurance company, how much for the engine, what year is it, and how far are you from Detroit? Does the engine come with the sterndrive?
Nick
p.s. Also, I would try to get something from the storage place, at least the deductable, even if you signed a disclaimer. Negligence can't be signed away no matter what...

| My insurance is 36 bucks a month. I have a 310 hp inboard engine. It's your typical 22 ft. wakeboard/ski boat. I think my insurer is boatersinsurance. |

Read the fine print before you pay-up. On renewal one year our insurance company sent a revised policy. The fine print said nobody under age 18 could drive the boat under any circumstances. That was unacceptable because we wanted our kids to drive the boat.
I shopped around and found the Western Boaters Safety Group had a policy which allowed our teens to drive under our supervision. It was only $42 more per year. We've had them as our insurance company ever since. Our youngest will be 18 before our first run this spring, but we'll still keep that insurance coverage. |
