Filming From a Tube

I've got a problem. Whenever we film from a tube the damn thing always whinds up get stuck in the trough of the wake and it flatens the wake so the rider can't jump it (we r riding w/ the tube shorter then the rider). and it's a pain b/c the only way to get the tube back in the center is to either urn sharply whcih isn't good and hope it goes back in the center or slow the boat down. is there any way to get the tube to stay in the center of the wakes?????

we couldn't do it either.. we tried the tube to a clet and put him on the landing wake!

I've never done it before, but when I get back home in a few weeks I'll definitely be trying it out behind my friends malibu. I was thinking of maybe carrying a paddle or something to use as a tiller, so I could maybe steer the tube a little bit. Only other thing I can think of is to have the boat turn as little as possible. I think double ups would be pretty damn tricky.

i tried it and it wouldnt work, couldnt get back into the wake once you come out and it ruined a run for the person boarding, the noly thing i can think if is get one of those chariot style tubes with fins and steer yourself, i think it would work but im not willing to buy one just for filming my friends for my surf/snow/wake video

The driver needs to pay attention to what is going on around the turns. Don't turn around to sharp basically and not give the boat too much gas while turning. If you do end up outside the wake the driver needs to slow down enough to get you back inside then speed back up. Another option, depending on how close you are in length, is to have the rider push the tube back into the middle of the wake by pulling themselves closer with the wrap handle.

do you guys all have hte waterproof housing things for your cameras? I want one but they are quite pricey, i'm gonna make one though someday.

we don't have a waterproof housing, we just use a zip lock bag. it works fine!!!!!!

thats smart, but what if you fall over? Its ok as long as its just splash hitting the bag but I wouldn't trust it to get submerged if I were to fall.

You need to tie the rope in a V shape from the boat tie downs.. You know where the boat is tied to the trailer in the back. And then make it so the rope can't slide back and forth in the tube tie. That way you get equal pressure from both sides.

I've been in the boat when pros were filming and if the tube started to get out of the center of the wake they would pull it back in - and on sharp turns they would just hold the tube in the wake by edging and holding a rope tied to the tube. It's a lot easier to keep the tube in the right spot than it is to try to move it back into the middle.

1. Drive the boat straight. Before taking off make sure the tube is straight behind the boat.

2. If you get in the trough and want to get back in, have the rider lower his rope so the photographer/filmer can grab it, then the rider can pull the tube back inside the wake.

3. The trough is a cool place to get a different angle (and is generally easier because the water is smoother and you aren't bouncing on the rooster tail). Just have the rider do tricks from the side opposite the tube. If you want to switch it up have the rider pull the tube across to the other trough with his rope.
