My opinion is a bit biased though. It really seems like it depends a lot on the board and a lot on the type of ride you are looking for. For example I like my board to track and not slip at all so I go with fairly big fins. But I am a little old school also.

i use fins but some times i like to take them off and do a surface 900 to get use to the haddle pass

Depends on the board totally!. I have noticed that fins seem to be getting smaller and smaller as the sport progresses. I just saw the Ricky G fins on a 2000 Project and they looked huge!

I dont ride with any fins on my board... granted that i have a premier and it has 2 built in fins on it.
