Anyone else catching the Donald Trump headlines? First there was some comment he made about immigration that I never really read into, but apparently it was controversial. Yesterday, there was article on Bloomberg that Trump said John McCain was only a war hero because he was captured and detained as a POW and he's more proud of the soldiers that were never captured. Today, there is an article saying Trump gave out Lindsey Graham's phone number at a campaign rally which Graham reps have confirmed. Is this whole "campaign" just a publicity stunt? I can't imagine the guy actually thinks these stunts will get him the GOP nomination, much less elected President. |

I'd take Trump over the idiots that have a shot at getting in up here. NDP OMG.
I've already sold most of my Canadian equities.... I just don't know where to stick my money right now? US doesn't seem like a safe bet with all the debt you guys are carrying.

GOLD!! Buy GOLD!!
I've got everything in index funds. I'm young so I can ride the waves up and down.
As far as Trump, of course it is publicity. He's got the current loud mouth, but will be destroyed in any debate. He will come off like a CEO / dictator and the others will jump on that. He's a sound bite waiting to happen. _________________ Work SUX! |

He's a dumb version of Ross Perot (for those of us here young/old enough to remember his presence in the '92 election). _________________

pet575, that is pretty insulting to Ross Perot.
It's like the Jersey Shore is campaigning for President, minus the gym and the tan.
What he said about Hispanics and also about McCain was terrible/horrible/despicable. Giving out Graham's personal phone number was pretty damn low too.
The fact that he is polling so high does not represent well for the GOP. Letterman used to have that bit "Trump or Monkey" and right now I'm pretty positive you don't need to make a distinction - Trump IS a monkey. _________________

I'll vote for him. I remember a couple months ago the polls had Bush and Clinton in the lead. I said F that and clearly a ton of other people agreed. Trump swooped in with perfect timing. Yes he is saying some outrageous stuff but its obviously a show to stay in the public eye. Underneath he is a very cunning and successful person and has raised a successful family. |

Successful person and family isn't necessarily a winner. See Romney and Perot.
I'd bet on the candidate that raises the most money. Right now that looks like Jeb Bush. |

As much as it pains me to see it, Jeb appears to be the golden boy in this clown car.
I don't know what a Trump presidency would look like. I'd prefer not to find out. _________________

It does sort of have a Perot feel. I read an article this morning that seems he may lean towards a 3rd party ticket if the GOP doesn't treat him right; seems like that is striking some fear into the GOP, the way it read. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

It won't matter who the GOP puts up if it isn't Rand Paul. No or few independents will vote for any of the others. Scott Walker may have an outside chance. The Libertarians will barely back Paul. That whole vote is gone if it is anyone else, especially anyone that is all for more war. _________________ Work SUX! |

Truth. I won't be voting for the GOP even if Paul was the choice...still not far enough away from our current path for me. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

I'm not predicting a winner. Maybe Trump will win, maybe he won't. But as it stands today I'll vote for him. If we have another Bush or another Clinton as president then my wife and I are going to have a serious discussion about leaving this country.
On a side note, is there a way to not see Okie Boarder's posts? So I don't have to keep glazing over 1/3 of this forum? |

cunning, yes. but he's also declared chapter 11 four times. a lot easier to be successful when you work the legal system to eliminate your debts.
Quote: | In 1991, Trump's Taj Mahal located in Atlantic City was in debt for billions of dollars. As a result, Trump's corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Bankruptcy court allowed Trump to reorganize his corporate debts and allowed the casino to keep operating. Trump did surrender half of his ownership interests in the Taj Mahal. He chose to sell his yacht and airplane to help make loan payments.
In 1992, Trump filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on his Trump Plaza Hotel in Atlantic City. At this time, Trump owed $550 million on the Trump Plaza Hotel. As part of the restructuring, Trump gave Citibank a 49% interest in the hotel. He was given a lenient repayment plan. Trump was able to stay on as CEO but he had to give up his salary.
Trump Hotels and Casino Resorts filed for bankruptcy in 2004. The corporation had $1.8 billion dollars of debt. Trump reduced his share in the company to 25% thereby surrendering his control of the corporation. The corporation received lower interest rates and another loan to upgrade the properties.
In 2009, Trump Entertainment Resorts filed bankruptcy after missing a large bond interest payment. Trump was not able to agree with his board of directors on a repayment plan so he resigned as chairman of the board and retained only a 10% ownership interest in the corporation.
Law Dictionary: How is Donald Trump Able to File for Bankruptcy So Many Times? |
trump is the political version of someone who only watches sportscenter, but thinks they know everything about sports. he has zero depth to his arguments because he has no understanding of how things work - like, actually/physically/procedurally/legally work.
i, for one, welcome our political jester. the longer he's wasting his money on this folly, the more entertaining this election season will be. especially if he runs independent. |

Yea, those news photos of the backed up boarders and refugee camps full of fleeing Americans in Canada and Mexico are crazy!
The numbers, though substantially higher, are soooooo small they're irrelevant. MANY of those irrelevant numbers are individuals leaving for reasons that have nothing to do with politics.
But if someone wants to become an expat, including you and your wife, I wish them the best. Life is too short to not live where you want. |

I'm certain I don't care where it started or with the right or left. I'm also certain that I find it amusing that almost nobody, right or left, follow up on these statements. Though, did we really think they would?
As I stated above, I am all for, regardless of political leanings, if you don't want to live in the United States for whatever reason, you should search out somewhere you find more appealing.
I want to state publically that whoever, regardless of political party, race, gender, sexual orientation ect. is in the White House after our next election, I'm NOT moving out of the States. |

eeven73, what stuff should I own? Not that I need to disclose it, but I did vote for GWB in Y2K, and ol' pencil holder before him.
Beyond that, are you even old enough to know (anecdotally on a first-person level) if it was said during Carter, Reagan, or Bush1? I'm certainly not - I mean I was old enough to be aware but too young to give a shirt. Point being hard-core political discourse isn't exactly a recent development.
One thing I will say - is that the hypocrisy is on both sides. However - I do find it quite humorous and ironic when hard-right wingers say they'll move to Canada or *insert_more_liberal_country_here_which_is_basically_all_developed_nations_that_someone_would_actually_want_to_move_to*. _________________

Carter is a stretch for me. I do recall alot of reagan 1st term.
Reagan 2nd term, Bush and Clinton x2 are crystal clear.
If anyone brought it up it didnt get the media play of Hollywoods bitching during W.
Sure there is hypocrisy on both sides. I wanted to address the representation in this thread that "i am leaving USA" was a child of right wingers vs. Barry. _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian? |

Same here. I'll also say that I don't think it makes much difference who wins. With all the bureaucracy and checks and balances (the checks and balances being a good thing IMO) nothing will change significantly with any candidate. |

Where did I say nothing has happened? I said it doesn't make a significant difference who is in office. My life has not changed significantly due to the actions of W or BO. The country is involved in some middle eastern conflicts which may be the most significant event(s) from the W years. My capital gains tax and health insurance premiums have increased under O, but I can't say I've lost sleep over the policies of either President and I'm not convinced the world would be much different if Gore, Kerry, McCain, or Romney had been elected. I doubt the financial crisis would have been handled much differently under other presidents either. |
