What kind of smokers are you guys using? I've been on the fence about getting one for a while. Can you do just burgers and stuff real quick as well?
I can get a substantial discount on anything from Camp Chef, and I've been eyeing their pellet grills. They seem to be pretty good, but do any of you have any experience with them?
Thanks |

My smoker is a New Braunfels Hondo, like this one:
I don't use my smoker as a grill. If I want to do something quick, like burgers, I use the gas grill or my charcoal grill. ohsix is right; that thread will probably give you a lot of good info on pellet grills since that's basically what EJ and Brent are using. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

I recently bought an all seasons feeders smoker. I really like it so far. The fire box is very large which allows it to easily serve as a nice sized grill. |

TN6 - The Smoker/Pellet grill debate has been pretty well discussed here lately. As a Pellet grill owner, I use it for 95% of our outdoor cooking purposes. I smoke large briskets (14lbs. last week), Grill burgers/Steaks, bake potatoes and more. It is the most versatile way to cook on the market. I keep my gas grill only for high temp searing of steaks, and overflow cooking when we have a crowd, and I run out of space on the pellet grill.
As far as timing, the Pellet grill takes about 5-10 minutes to heat up, which is only slightly slower than my gas grill. Clean up is easy, and the food taste on the different wood smoke is awesome. FYI - the stuffed jalapenos and baked potatoes are amazingly better on the smoker than on a gas grill! Steaks also have much more flavor. |

Yea you can tell I don't frequent here as much. I glanced at it, but just saw a bunch of pictures of delicious looking food and got hungry. |

TnR6Rida,
How often do you plan to actually smoke meat opposed to grilling? |

I actually haven't technically smoked anything on my pellet grill/smoker as far as I know(there is a smoke setting, I'm always higher than that), just grilled. The heat is just produced by wood pellets vs propane, thus you get that flavor element.
I waited too long to get my Traeger..... If you can get a deal on a Camp Chef, I'd do it tomorrow. I don't have any experience with them(only my little Traeger), but I wouldn't hesitate to get one.
Hear Yoder & Green Mountain make great pellet grills as well. |

E.J., Thanks E.J. I was hoping for some feedback on a camp Chef because I have never looked at one in person so I don't know how they are as far as quality. I believe I can get anything from them for 40% off. That thing is $834 so 40% off at least would make it affordable |

Based on their camp stoves, I'd be very comfortable with a blind purchase. That said, I blind purchase a lot of chit. |

Don't overthink it, get a Weber Smoky Mountain and never look back. You can get the 18" at Lowe's for $299. You're not going to find anything close to that price that is that easy to use and offers as much versatility. |

I have the Weber Smokey Mountain. It's easy to fire up, set the temp and leave it.

Those are great. But, according to the original post, no. You aren't cooking burgers and stuff on them. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/greasemonkeytv |

Those are some good mods to use the WSM as a grill. I love my Weber charcoal grill and always thought the WSM ought to be able to be used as a grill somehow. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

Leaning towards just getting the Weber Smokey Mountain for now and if I really get into doing a lot of smoking with it then maybe upgrade later on. |

TnR6Rida, that was my plan as well. Upgrade at some point to an offset. But - honestly, I just don't cook that much for that many people. I don't see my self ever upgrading. _________________ Work SUX! |

That's probably a good move and it should serve you well. I've talked about upgrading for years, but what I have does the job. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |
