St Louis Recommendations

A few buddies and I are heading to St Louis the weekend of May 15 to see the Cardinals Tigers series. Any recommendations on where to stay in St Louis, and also where to sit at the ball park? Must hit bars and restaurants?

Looks like the Hilton that over looks the stadium is a pretty good option. Are the specialty tickets in the outfield boxes any good (Coke Roof Top, Budweiser Porch)?

I was in St. Louis for a work conference a few years back. The Cards were in a home stand and played every night. I stayed at the Ballpark Hilton with a room overlooking the field(I highly recommend this).

We pre-purchased tickets in Homers Landing and they were great, assume the beer, nachos and dogs I ate, more than paid for the ticket. Other than that, got a card from a "full service" scalper in front of the hotel day one, called him after the 1st pitch and he dumped great tickets on us for about 1/2 face value. 1st row, upper deck behind home plate.

Pretty tought to mess up staying at that Hilton. If you are looking for decent bars near downtown go to the Soulard area.

If you are looking for Italian food, "The Hill" is the area you are going to want to go to.

We're up there for 5-6 games a year. We usually stay at the Ballpark Hilton or at a Drury that is a couple of blocks over. The Hilton has a rooftop bar that used to be the place to go after the games, but most everyone is sticking around Ballpark Village now.

Downtown St Louis is not your typical downtown area as your options are fairly limited on where to go after a game. There are some old school bars south of the stadium you may want to hit before or after like Paddy O's. However, I've been down there and it be packed and other times it will be completely empty.

Also going to St. Louis for the NCAA wrestling event in March. Best steakhouse in St Louis???

I was just there. Stayed at Drury that has this fantastic Italian place attached to it. Had a great dinner and about three a.m. was awoken to find out the hotel manager was murdered in the lobby during an attempted robbery. Guess the city had seven murders that night. Just a typical Tuesday night in St. Louis... or Baghdad

From what I've been told by KC people who have eaten there, Sugar Fire is supposedly worth a damn. Haven't been myself but I lived in STL for 8 years and would never recommend any of their BBQ places.

If you're looking for Italian, go to The Hill and go to either Canettos, Favazzas, or Charlie Gittos.

For a steak, there is a place called Sam's Steakhouse in South County that is very good. If you don't want Ruth's Chris or another chain then go there. JBucks is decent but not amazing. I wouldn't go to Mike Shannon's to have a steak. It is probably average to barely above. The only thing you're getting there is the convenience of not having to leave downtown.
