|
|
Headed to the Orlando area in early February and would like to plan a day of fishing on either the Gulf or Atlantic depending on what is the better option that time of year. Looking for a full day trip, nothing overnight.
If any of you have a recommendation on a body of water, charter, what to fish for etc. etc. I'd be grateful. _________________

I got this one! lol
Depends a bit on what kind of fishing you want to do. Inshore (snook, reds, jacks, etc.), bottom (grouper, red snapper, etc.), or offshore/ocean (pelagics-mahi, sails, etc).
In february in FL you could have offshore weather problems, could be rough, could not be. It will not be too cold for you. Offshore that is really about prime time for sailfish, and if you were interested in that you would go to teh Atlantic side, probably as far south as you could handle for the drive, maybe Ft. Pierce area or something. On the gulf side pelagics are really too far out.
For bottom fish and inshore, it's probably a toss up. I don't personally know anyone that far north, but could absolutely find a referral. if you want more info., email me at darcizzleoffshore@gmail.com _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

For the same entertainment value, you could save yourself some money by painting a wall and watching it dry. |

Be sure to stop at Rocco's Tacos when in Orlando. Amazing tequila selection, guacamole made table side, and great atmosphere right on the lake. |

The trip in general is a perfectly good waste of jet-fuel if you ask me. I might as well have some fun while I'm there, and fishing trumps just about anything Florida can offer me.

jryoung avoid rocco's tacos and anything in that part of Orlando. It's the chain restaurant mecca of the city. Orlando has such a good local food scene in the downtown, college park and winter park area. Judging from what you post about on here I know you like food. Orlando has some of the best restaurants in Florida especially once you get away from the Dr. phillips I-drive area. If you need recommendations just let me know, I guarantee you I will not steer you wrong. |

freerider - AVOID ROCCO'S?!?!? Whaaatt?!?!?! Yes, the area can be congested with traffic, but Rocco's is an awesome restaurant. Both the GM and Exec Chef are good friends, and I can promise that you will have an excellent time there. |

RE: ROCCO'S: I can't vouch for the Orlando location but I frequent the Ft. Lauderdale one every time I'm in town.
Highly recommended. Lots of fun. _________________ Impossible is not a a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

As this is now a Roccos thread, I will comment on that! Rocco's taco's is in fact a franchise, pretty decent, would go again...just don't ever never go during peak or near-peak times--will be packed, like CheeseCake factory packed. I would not put it high on the list of places to go in Orlando frankly.
As for swass, I would much rather spend a day on the ocean not catching fish than watch a bunch of dudes go back and forth like a pendulum behind my boat all day. IJS _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Aubs - Yeah, it may be an awesome restaurant, but it's nothing you can't get anywhere else and there is nothing that is just blow your socks off about it. It's the standard sand lake/I-drive restaurant to appeal to the masses. Orlando has one of the best and burgeoning food scenes in Florida, so all i'm saying is there are just way too many restaurants that blow the freaking socks off rocco's to pass up and i'm not talking super fine dining either. We're talking from simple Amazing vietnamese food and little vietnam (Mills 50 district), to one of the best Japanese restaurants in Florida, one of the top craft beer bars in the country etc... The list could go on, don't take my word for it I only lived in Orlando for 8 years and just recently moved. Just to clarify though, I do enjoy Rocco's they have good food, good guac and margies, but there are just too many great options in Orlando.

I coincidentally went to Roccos tacos in WPB with my GF and my buddy Frank whom I believe I met on WB.com like 9 years ago. Was yummy, was not that crowded due to weather (it was almost sweater weather after all), and can confirm again pretty good place. Did not see any fishing going on there. _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Clematis might be the first, but it isn't the best. Don't judge Rocco's by that one. |

I'm not judging Rocco's! I'm the one saying it's good, you just seem to like it better than I. Do you own stock in Rocco's Taco's? lol
And they put too much sour cream in their guac, phhhpppttttt! _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

Sour cream in guac? I'll give Rocco's a GFY, they must be communists. _________________

Any small amount of interest I had in going to Rocco's has completely gone out the window. |

It's like a "filler" I presume, like to add volume as sour cream is cheaper than avocado? IDK, tasted like it had sour cream in it, and yea, any sour cream is too much, IMO _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

It isn't always added; the guacamole is made table side, so you can say what you want or dont want in yours. |

Does anyone on here have a deep sea fishing boat? I have a 2005 VlX in Orlando, would a day of wakeboarding/surfing on the Butler Chain of Lakes equate to a fishing trip out at sea? _________________ Live to Ride, ride to live |

yes, no.
A fishing trip on the ocean would be far more expensive, even if you took the same size boat out in the ocean, a 21, which you likely will not. "deep see" fishing boats get a max of 3mpg, and most in the 1.5mpg area, plus bait etc. Of course you gotta find someone then that wakeboards and deepsea fishes, which is a tall order and then someone that wants to wakeboard all day, not me. a couple pulls fine, but watching a bunch of dudes swing back and forth behind a boat all day is in my past! lol _________________ Check out https://www.facebook.com/darcizzleoffshore |

When I split costs of a trip with friends of mine who have an offshore boat it is usually between $300-$400 per day FYI _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |
