like a lot of you guys, i've been a member here since i was a teen. i've pretty much grown up on this board, and, even though i don't visit or post much any more, i thought i'd share some good news.

i turned 30(!) last month. i've been an attorney for 4 years now, and that's going well. this spring i was also hired to start a middle school soccer program for our school district, and our fall season was a success. our 6th grade team was 6-0, and our 7/8th team had a winning record too.

throughout school, i had a goal of buying myself my porsche for my 30th bday. that didn't happen yet. student loans were a bitch. plus it'd be hard to fit all my soccer equipment in the frunk. i did get myself a nice 30th bday gift though...

my gf and i got possession of our new house last friday, and we've been slowly moving our stuff in since then. friday was our first night in the new place. after dinner friday night, i proposed, and she accepted...

i feel like an actual adult now with a house payment and a partner. i've enjoyed seeing all of your updates over the years so i thought i'd share mine. i hope everyone else had a happy halloween too.

sorry i couldn't figure out how to get the pics to attach. i'm getting too old for this!

Welcome to the party, pal./john mclane.

Just wait till the first night, after family leaves, that it is you, the wife and a child(assuming).

Congrats on the house and engagement.

My advice would be forget the Porsche and focus on the house for a few years at least. (Plus you'll have a wedding to pay for I'm sure... haha) I've wanted one of those myself but other things seem to take priority and I wish I hadn't bought some of the toys I did when I was younger. My plan now as an "adult" is much better... save my money and I'll just convince my neighbour to let me drive his Carrera 4s. Laughing

...and don't forget, she'll be wanting a wee one shortly after you're married. Just wait.

Congrats on 30, a domestic partner (that's the preferred nomenclature), and the house.
I think I started posting here when I was 18 and am now 31. I had the same desire for a Porsche and bought one with my first big bonus after paying off my first house. Like ont stated, better to delay those kind of purchases until you've got a good financial foundation.

congrats on adulting! also, welcome to DEBT or home ownership, however you want to look at it.

Save / invest now if you haven't started. I'm not much older than you (3Cool and wish I had invested more at a younger age.

Good luck with the engagement and the whole marriage thing. There are a few of us happily married.

Hey congrats! Attorney for TWENTY years!

Adult advice 1: Only way to make actual money is to have your own business, attorney is a shitty business, but have it on your own or do something else.

Adult advice 2: Attitude of Gratitude. Be grateful for EVERYTHING...this will make you much happier.

Adult advice 3: Regards the Porsche, if you can swing it get it. Everyone has some hobby or interest that they spend their money on..cars, boats, hunting, fishing, whatever. I'm not a car guy, but you can be.

I love to see the younger generation moving thru life. So exciting to see all the steps along the way.

I just met up with a kid I taught how to wakeboard in San Fran this past week past weekend. He is almost 30 now. Living in San Fran and working for Google. Doing big things in the internet world. I remember him being a college kid just trying to finish up at UT Austin. Now he is all grow'd up.

good for you STPHNSN23. thanks for the update.

Yeah I was saying the same thing to my friends when I bought my condo. Two years later and I'm finally getting happy about how things look, and then a f-cking o-ring goes out and my bathtub starts leaking on the neighbor downstairs. Fun! Laughing

Congrats, though. Must feel real good! I personally wont be in the market for a Porsche any time soon, but maybe some day.

Yeah, I agree with all of that. Wish I was still a grad student and could be at the beach 3 days a week. *sigh* Oh, the good ol' days

just bought my future bride her wedding present:

i hadn't given mowers much thought when we bought the house. i certainly hadn't priced them. and she grew up on a farm and didn't want a "little girl mower". for a guy whose uncle sells blue tractors, buying a "junky john deere" was tough to accept at first. but what do they say about a happy wife? at least they gave me a black jd hat instead of a green one.

Please tell me that there is a level of sarcasm around the 'wedding present' comment...

nope. she said she'll do the mowing if i buy the mower. but she wanted a JD like she grew up mowing on. i think i got off light compared the equipment she's been using on the farm.
