LOL!

So far, so good. I'm down 6 pounds already. I've been able to hover around 1900 calories a day so far.

We made a dinner that is typically high calorie count last night, but I made a few tweaks to reduce them a bit and had a small portion, along with a big helping of spinach.

The MFP app is helping a lot...I enter everything in to it and keep track of calories. It's definitely an eye opener and helps me meter my intake a lot.

Good work! Just remember that any given day your weight can fluctuate a couple of pounds. So this week you lost 6 lbs, next week maybe it's only 1 or you break even. Just gotta be consistent and stick with it.

If you keep losing 6 lbs a week, maybe your body is more active than you thought and you can add in a couple hundred calories and still be on a path to success.

I lost some weight about 5-6 years ago and had the same thing happen. The first week or two was around a pound a day, then it slowed down to more around a pound a week.

We'll see how it goes.

I had a couple interesting experiences this weekend. On Saturday night we had decided to go out to dinner as a family. We decided to try Wes Welker's restaurant, which is kind of more like upper scale bar and grill food. They had a good selection, but a lot of stuff I knew would be loaded with calories. I almost got some salmon or chicken but thought maybe I should let myself have a little bit of a "cheat" day. I decided on some sort of chili burger. I had them make it without the bun and got some onion rings along with it. I ate 2-3 onion rings and ate about half the burger and felt full. A month ago, I probably would have eaten the entire burger and all the onion rings.

We also had got together with a group of friends last night and they were doing pizza. I did have a couple pieces, but limited myself. When I was entering in what I ate into MFP and realized how many calories it was, it was an eye opener. Then, I looked around the room at all the people that ate 5, 6, 7+ pieces of pizza.

Even with a couple days of some "unhealthy" food, I'm still on track and feeling pretty good.

Have y'all ever eaten freeze dried fruits?

We actually bought some of these a while ago and I decided to have one as a snack today.

I found a recipe that I thought sounded good to try. Thought I'd share.

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Healthier-Slow-Cooker-Chicken-Taco-Soup/Detail.aspx?evt19=1

I omitted the tomato sauce and chili beans, then added another can of black beans, more carrots, peppers, brussel sprouts, a little celery, homemade salsa, and zucchini.

I'll just be eating the meat, beans and veggies, not adding any cheese, sour cream or chips.

How has your last 3 weeks gone?

I've spent the good part of 2014 on the "drink beer and don't do much else" workout plan. It has helped me pack on mass.

The results of the recipe I posted. It turned out good, but it needs more flavor. I'll have to play around with seasonings to make it better.

pet575, so far so good. I've been using the new machine we bought and my stamina is increasing. I've also been walking on top of using the machine and doing some free weights to help build a little muscle. So far, I'm down 15 pounds and feeling good.

I hear ya about the beer. I definitely like having beer on a regular basis, so that hurts me a bit.

I found a cool recipe called harira. If any of you like middle eastern type food, this is a good one to try. I actually blended a couple different recipes to come up with the end result. These are the two recipes I used.

http://jenessasdinners.blogspot.com/2013/08/moroccan-harira-soup.html

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/emeril-lagasse/harira-moroccan-chickpea-stew-with-chicken-and-lentils-recipe.html

I followed the first one, mostly. I used the second one as a guide for additional spices, and used all dried beans instead of canned. This was a good meal that was fairly low in calories, but packed with flavor and goodness. I had a small piece of nan bread with some hummus along with it. I can see how this could be adapted for a crock pot meal.

I'm at 7 weeks today and have lost 20 pounds. Exercise is getting easier and we have been doing some walking with time improvements each time out.

I tried jogging some and I can do it, but I have to run a little funny where I don't pick my feet up off the ground much. The impact is what will really make my knee hurt where the bone break occurred.

So, I passed the 3 month mark and the 30 pound mark. We haven't exercised as much as we would like, but still doing well. I have religiously used the MFP app and really been eating as healthy as possible. I have been using a meal replacement shake for breakfast and lunch; as soon as the last bit is gone, I'll go back to regular meals. I've gone out to eat with coworkers a few times and eaten as healthy as possible, but mainly watched portions. That has made a huge impact. For example, we went out to Chili's the other day and I ordered a bowl of their southwest chicken soup, that's it. I was satisfied with the meal and consumed 1/3 or less the calories as almost all my coworkers. We've found several meal ideas that work well and adapted to ensure we have eliminated simple carbs and sugars wherever possible. I definitely eat tons more veggies than I used to and that is the largest portion on my plate.

My new challenge is to integrate breakfast and lunch back in without bringing in foods that won't be good for me. For breakfast I'm thinking things like fruit/yogurt, granola, whole grain cereal here and there, oatmeal (probably steel cut), eggs, whole wheat toast. Lunch I may do soups, a light sandwich with whole wheat bread, cottage cheese, fruit, maybe leftover meat and veggies.

Any other ideas or things that have worked well for any of you?

Nice! Sounds like you've got a pretty good plan going there.

Lunches are easy as long as you stay away from processed foods and breads that are loaded with bad carbs like sugars and enriched/bleached flours. Stick to the whole wheat bread, multigrains, and the same thing with tortillas as a replacement for breads. Also, I've discovered lately that plain Greek yogurt is a really nice replacement for mayo on many sandwiches-tastes nearly the same without the....mayo.

Sounds like I'm thinking along the same lines already...cool! I noticed whole wheat pita seems like a good alternative to bread, too. I've tried hummus in place of mayo or other fatty spreads/dressings a couple times already and I like that, too. We've been using the greek yogurt in place of sour cream for a couple months now. Pretty cool stuff!

i ditch the bread altogether. my lunches are usually leftovers from dinner or hard boiled eggs, a handful of carrots, and an apple. add some nuts and jerky in the afternoon or with lunch if you need it, and that's plenty to hold you through a work out and dinner after work.

I thought I would do an update. I started this journey late July last year. I lost 40 pounds by the end of December and have kept it right in that same range (+/- 1-2 pounds). My habits have become my routine, with a heavy focus on lean meats, veggies, fruits, good fats, healthy snacks, smaller portions and lots of water. I feel good and definitely notice a difference.
