Because life seems to get in the way, we don't get out as much as we'd like, but still love the old girl. I'm excited to float her for the first time this year, this coming weekend....
I sometimes miss my boat.... the best and worst decision I ever made. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide
I sometimes miss my boat.... the best and worst decision I ever made.
I "think" I'd sell it if not for the kids.... The Little One just started wakeboarding last year & loves it. I still put on a board every time we go out, but prefer to surf.....
I enjoy the social aspect of getting out on the lake with friends, more than actually being towed around.
I can relate. Over the last 10 years my boat hrs went from 150 in 04 to 15 last year. Thank god the boat is paid for.
3 little kids = No afterwork wakeboard trips or full weekends on the boat. Dirty diapers and such are buzz kills
Oh, and she is beautiful. Real classy, I am sure you would regret letting her go when and if that happens. _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian?

those 210s are still some of my favorite boats, and the color of yours is great. who had the smurfed out 210? was that churchy or one of the CA guys or someone else?
we ski more than board now, so our 92(!) closed bow ski nautique is great for me when i'm behind it, but it is not so great for the social aspect.
Love that boat man. I'll be either getting a boat or a pool in about 3 years. Both have pro's and con's. I think it will depend on which one my wife and kid want more. _________________ Work SUX!
Looking good! We probably will only get out a couple times this year due to schedules and budget, but we're thankful to have the boat and be able to go out. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Wait until your little man can swim well before you get a pool. It is a pain in the azz messing with a pool cover or fence. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em...
IN new york, you have to have a fence if you have a pool that is not raised a certain height above the ground.
On account of kids drowning. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide

Get a pool. Especially down in Houston.
We have to have 6' fences enclosing the yard with gates reversed to swing out instead of in. We also have to have door alarms on all doors that can access the backyard.
I also have a pool fence that I have yet to install. My son is enrolled in swim lessons almost constantly. That said, we still have child proof latches on the doors that exit to the backyard (which we ALWAYS lock) and he is damn well versed in not going to the backyard without an adult. I removed those ridiculous door alarms as soon as we passed inspection.
That said, I will be installing the pool fence before our next kid can crawl. _________________
Hey, I'm not going to tell anyone how to protect their own families, but I will just say that kids that are excellent swimmers drown too.
That said....
I got rid of my boat so that I could buy a house after my divorce. Absolutely the right thing to do... but I do miss her and I think that I will probably get another one when my kids are older. But it won't be a 70K wakeboard boat, it will probably be an I/O that i can reasonably afford this time.
Man, I do miss my boat though... _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide
Yep, which is why we have the secondary child locks. When we do have kid 2, I want the fence up to prevent the inevitable distraction - as another line of defense. _________________
He will be 7 or 8 before a pool goes in. I doubt we will have a fence around it, as our back yard is fenced in. We will have sliding lock on the back door that he won't be able to reach.
I'll probably end up doing both at some point, but with a nice, used $25 - $30k wakeboat. I don't need all the fancy crap. Just give me perfect pass and a bimini and I'm good to go. We already have the seadoo wake edition jet ski and a fishing boat at the family lake house that he can ride behind. Amazingly, I can still find rides all over Houston if we want to get behind a boat. One dude named vette74 used to invite me out... _________________ Work SUX!
Speaking of kids drowning, have y'all seen that technique for babies and toddlers to be able to keep themselves from drowning? _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
are you referring to the mammalian diver reflex? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide

One of the greatest life lessons my father ever gave me was putting a pool\hottub in at my childhood home in 1985 when I was 11. Was great until I was about 14 and I became in charge of the maintenance. Saved me a lot of money as an adult. _________________ TONA
Why not? It's no different than owning a boat. They both have extra costs. They are both a luxury item. If you use it and use it often, then what's the issue? My in-laws have one, as well as a good friend. They both futz with the chemicals some and have a robot to clean it. They skim it every so often. Outside of that, they don't have much else to do. _________________ Work SUX!
As a new pool owner, I can say that maintenance these days, is no sweat.
The key? SALT CHLORINATION
I have a Jandy Fusion Chlorinator, and all I have to do is occasionally test the water for Ph. The system does the rest. If there is a problem, I get an error code that is easily researched.
Twice a year I will clean the main filters, and once a year I will purchase a new mineral cartridge (prevents algae) which costs appx $110.
Sure, there will be additional maintenance cost down the road when parts wear out. So will a boat, or nearly any other toy.
Also - I have a multi-speed pump. As I type this, the company that did my solar is upgrading my control panel to a fully automated solution. So when I need solar (or need the vacuum on) it will switch my pump into high speed. When it is done heating (or cleaning) it switches to low speed. For reference, the high speed uses 7 times more power than the low. So, because summer here is warm, and I only need to vacuum for an hour or so a day, I use very little power compared to old skool one speed pumps. Hell, even when I had to run my pumps 24/7 during the break in phase, my electric bill was only $30 higher. _________________
I had an oldschool chlorine system. I had jugs of muratic (hydrochloric) acid that my skinny 14yr old arms could barely lift. I had to test the water constantly and use some chaos theory formula to determine how much to add. Every morning was a game of "guess what scary shti is in the skimmer". Is it dead? Alive? Pissed? I dont know, pop the lid, stick your hand in and pray. Snake? Squirrel, rat, tarantula? Filters plugged? Reverse that nastiness out into the side yard where I could leave it, right? No, I gotta glad-hand the goop ball. Then there was the 50ft willow tree that would drop eleventy billion leave an hour. Every morning the pool had a leaf blanket. Thats ok, Jason had one of those crappy pole nets that weight as much as he did. Only took 2 hours to get the leaves out. What, I have to do this all winter even though we arent using it? Yes! But at least its in some cold climate so you dont have to deal with leaves, right? No its Houston\Galveston area, where the trees cant make up their mind what season it is. Now on to the hottub. Back then it wasnt part of the pool system. it ran independent. it stayed hot 24/7 with a big thermal cover. it required its own chlorine measurements and chemical additions, but seemed to get nasty at a much faster rate. When it was time to clean it, it was drain it, scrub it, fill it, shock it. Killed an entire Saturday.
My inlaws have a pool. Those are the best pools. _________________ TONA
I have one tree in my back yard and it would have to be removed for a pool. The new pumps are slick - inlaws have one. If i get a hot tub with the pool, it will be integrated. Also, I will not heat the pool. I live in Houston. Pool time is from late April till early October.
Thank you for the response. If that was the case, I would not want a pool either. _________________ Work SUX!
The new systems ARE much better. My inlaws pay a pool guy so they never deal with any of the maint. I also grew up in a very rural area. Seems much less critter prone in a subdivision. Did any of you grow up with a pool? _________________ TONA
we did move in with my in-laws for four months while our new house was being built. It was damn nice having that pool in the back yard to jump in after work or at night after the kid went to bed. _________________ Work SUX!
It is called ISR http://www.infantswim.com/ both of my little ones went through it and are getting the refresher course now. It is an excellent program however it is a little pricey and you have to go every...damn.... day for 6 weeks. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em...
However, everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face.
