My suggestion is don't take a car. The subway system there (Metro) is clean, reliable, and convenient for most of the historic sites. I spent a week there years ago and only used a cab to and from the airport (baltimore). The Metro may even run to closer airports. Hotels and food are expensive in the mall area. The historic attractions are cheap or free. If you have any kind of connection to a congressman or senator, contact their office for a guided tour of the Capitol.

I usually stay at the Ritz Carlton as i like the location and is convenient to the national mall and the location of meetings when i am in town. I haven't stayed at the George but i like Kimpton hotels.
Thanks guys. Got this a little late and had to book already. Would have liked to take the metro ohsix but was already driving into the city. Ended up at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown basically because it was easy/cheap and close to the mall.
