Well, another year has passed and signing day is here. Fax machines are rolling, who's landing who?

Many doubted Coach Petes ability to recruit on the big stage, but it looks as if he may have a top 25 class. He has landed a 4* CB, 4* OL and 4*S since Friday. Hoping for a suprise today too.[/quote]

Laughing @ ^

$C has a decent run of 4 star guys from SoCal already committed. Got a few nationally tracked guys hopefully signing today. How many months until September?

Been following that this morning, what a couple of dumbasses. Anxious to see how the dust settles, but my guess is that they will be kicked off the team if the report hold water.

Well, that 24 year old OC, who I wondered openly how he could ever get that job(he never showed anything as a QB coach) & after one miserable season was then demoted to CO-OC, then after no noticeable improvement, demoted again back to QB coach, has hired on with Mississippi State and the coach that signed him out of HS(Dan Mullen).

Though I think Brian Johnson appears to be a GREAT guy and a solid recruiter, he has never done anything for the Utes that made me think, wow, this guy can develop talent. I said this when he was named the OC at Utah, then even kept at Co-OC, so it's not like it's sour grapes.

I wish him the best....but I think this is the opportunity for the Utes to actually upgrade.... They VERY MUCH need to bring in someone that can develop a QB....added bonus if they can keep one healthy.

it's very interesting watching how recruiting is changing at texas w/ charlie strong at the helm. he's not offering kids early, and is casting a VERY wide net, especially across the southeast. pretty much the exact opposite of how mack brown did things.

Not that I think it will happen.

If Charlie lays an egg(less than 6 wins) season 1, does he get a season 2?

I think the Saban/Bielema rules changes are complete self serving crap. Frankly it would effect Oregon less last year than previous years. The tempo slowed way down.

i can't see that hypothetical happening (i see 8/9 reg season wins), but no, can't see a firing if it does. that's patterson's hire and he'd stick w/ him. i mean, what organization (besides the browns), operates like that?

agree on the rules change. hope it doesn't get put into practice.

as far as the oregon tempo slowing way down, i'm showing 973 plays last year vs 1058 the year before - a difference of 6.5 plays/game. is that really all that big a difference?

I would respond to the decrease in plays stat with, "figures lie and liers figure".

I am not going to go back an analyze/compare the stats, but I would guess Oregon was ahead of the tempo through game 7ish then it hit the fan.

They had horrible tempo/pace in the final 5ish games.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/10484741/oklahoma-sooners-penalized-three-student-athletes-eating-too-much-pasta

Quote:
The NCAA apparently has rules about everything when it comes to college athletics.

Even pasta eating.

A list of benign secondary violations that Oklahoma's athletic department reported to the NCAA included one bizarre anecdote: According to The Oklahoman, three unnamed Sooners athletes ate more food during a graduation banquet than NCAA rules allow. The violations occurred on May 10, 2013, according to the newspaper.

The specific item overindulged on was pasta.

To have their eligibility reinstated, the three had to donate $3.83 each (the cost of the pasta servings) to charities of their choice.

Although the players were not identified, offensive linemen Gabe Ikard and Austin Woods took to Twitter to fess up for piling on the pasta and claim they paid $5 for the food.

Kendal Thompson transfers from Okalahoma to Utah(graduating, doesn't have to sit). 2 to play 2. Travis Wilson cleared for the Spring, not sure if that does anything for me, not cleared for contact. Not sure he ever will be... Have to assume the powers that be would not be having him gobble up Spring snaps, if they didn't think his being cleared for FC was assumed for the Fall.

Add in Conner Manning & Jason Thompson, at least there is a little depth at the position.

Wonder why Kendal Thompson would choose Utah? Why come to a place with a returning starter(2 years to play, assuming he is cleared), young depth(Manning, Isom, Cox et al) and no Spring? Not to mention another QB that transferred to follow his HC, who is the new OC, so ahead ahead of the game. Then again, the shambles the Utes have had taking snaps on a yearly basis for the past 4 years..... Confused

I fail to see any strong conference correlation in JT's post. Question I also don't see how Iowa State or Texas' OOC schedule is tougher than Florida State's. Finally, when the 2014 schedules were set, no one knew how good most of those teams would be. You could have bet Alabama and Florida (who may not be very good) would be good in 2014, but the rest of those teams in the top and bottom 10 schedules could have gone either way 2+ years ago.

Only 6 months till UO vs. MSU.

Nervous, MSU has had the type of defense that has kicked our teeth in. Not sure what they lost from last year. They were a tight loss vs ND from NC game, I would think.

I can see the number of teams in the SEC on each list. I'm not convinced that any conference, or school, deliberately set out to make either list though. If a school had scheduled 3 or 4 out of: USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Florida, Alabama, or Texas for their non-conference game in one season, years in advance, I would say they are trying to build themselves a tough OOC schedule.

If someone is arguing that SEC schools play a tougher OOC schedule than other conferences, that list would be relevant as it shows otherwise. I don't remember anyone trying to make that point though. If SEC schools tend to dominate the bottom 10 list year after year, you could make the point that the SEC plays weak OOC schedules, but even then, I think it would be tough to make the bottom of the list year after year given that you don't know how good a team will be 2+ years in advance when the schedule is set.

I guess I still fail to understand the significance of the lists.

it isn't about who TRIED to schedule anything - it's simple math, that's all. as for significance, it's just showing who has the tougher ooc schedule based upon last year's records. wouldn't look too deep into it.

ohsix,

SEC is usually regarded as playing a weak OOC schedule. You really do know 2 years out( most scheduling is further out than that) hell even 5 that Furman, Charlston Southern, VMI,..... are not going to be competitive games. Sometimes it blows up in powerhouse programs face ( Michigan vs. App State)

There is however the very real problem of canceled/bought out games and unwillingness of top tier out of conference programs to play home and homes against really any of the top programs from the BCS conferences.

The NCAA Football Rules Committee has withdrawn a controversial “10-second” proposal, sources told ESPN’s Brett McMurphy. The news was also reported by USA Today’s George Schroeder.

According to Schroeder, the committee announced on a Wednesday conference call that the proposal would not be sent to the Playing Rules Oversight Panel. That panel was slated to consider the rule change, among others, for the coming season on Thursday.

The NCAA Football Rules Committee announced last month that it had proposed a rule change to allow time for defensive substitutions within the first 10 seconds of the regular 40-second play clock, regardless of whether or not the offense substitutes. Offenses would not be allowed to snap the ball until at least the 29-second mark of the play clock under this proposal, which would effectively halt up-tempo offenses.

looks like tamu has another heisman qb on their hands!

Quote:
Texas A&M sophomore football player Kenny Hill arrested on public intoxication charge outside College Station bar

A potential starting quarterback for Texas A&M was arrested on a public intoxication charge outside a Northgate bar before dawn Friday.

Kenny Hill, a 19-year-old sophomore from Southlake, was taken into custody in the parking lot of Chimy’s on University Drive just before 3 a.m., according to College Station police reports. He has since posted bail and was released.

Hill was passed out in a planter full of rocks and plants in front of the restaurant-bar when officers arrived, police said in the arrest report.

When asked who the current president of the United States was, Hill reportedly answered “Bush” and told officers his name was “Kennedy,” authorities said.
