|
|
Looking at ohsix's house thread made me wonder if anyone here had done anything with steel buildings. We have a local friend that did a steel building and finished the inside. When you're in the house it isn't much different than a standard stick construction house. Obviously there are going to be some pros and cons and would love to hear what people can provide as feedback. Any of you use this kind of construction or know someone that did? _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

I did it on my river house. It is cheaper to build and to get dried in takes less time. The walls are thicker and you have to deal with the beams on the inside. I will take some pics and show them it looks just like a frame built house on the inside. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

Sounds good. What do you know about construction loans, insurance, etc? Any issues with construction that differ from standard stick construction that you ran in to? _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

Are you talking about a pole barn type building? If so, that's what was on our property when we bought it. The previous owner built it and finished off the inside just like a normal 1,800sf single-story house on a slab(5BR, 2 bath, etc).
We've since attached a good sized house to the "shed" and converted the shed into mostly garage albeit a garage with a kitchenette, full bathroom and workout room on the one end |

| You will have a tough time getting a construction loan on that type of structure. Construction loans are already a higher risk then add a unique property and it becomes that much worse. If it's common for the area then it might be easier. This also hits you when you go to sell. Most banks may shy away unless you can comp it out in the local area..................... |
