That's a quick way to make a grr. I actually saw one of last year's cards in use a few days ago. At of all places, a roadside Starbucks at the base of the Grapevine.
Didn't realize it had $400 pre-loaded on it. Makes it not a completely outrageous purchase if you are a Starbucks nut. Still rather use the app.
On a related note, found out that the two Starbucks locations inside of Disneyland Resort (one in each park) actually take the card/app as payment, unlike all of the ones in grocery stores or the airports.

chavez - when at locations that don't take the app, tell them to punch in your gift card number as a gift card. normally, they'll accept this and it will use the balance on your card/you will get credit.
I have to do this at some of the service centers along our highways and Canada's Wonderland.
To get the gift card number, press the "touch to pay" and read out your card number.

arof, the locations I am talking about just don't take the gift cards or app. Typically these are found in other stores (Target, Safeway, etc) and are on the store's POS system, not Starbucks' system, so they can't process it.
I might try the number thing next time I'm at the airport though.
