There's a special place for them.
Got me on Friday night. They stole:
-15" MacBook Pro
-13" MacBook Pro
-2 XBox 360s
-2 Flatscreen TVs
-iPod Touch
-2 Headphones
-Backpack+50$ book I got the day before
I hope they get careless. There are ways to track these things... |

STPHNSN23, luckily it's a small town so they might care. Also may be related to other thefts.
More importantly we have serial numbers so if they sell anything to a pawn shop it'll get flagged immediately. I don't want to say too much on here since wb.com is my homepage on one of those laptops and they could potentially see this, but I guess it's probably safe since if they get on the internet at all my email will instantly show activity on their IP address and I can track it.
Again, I hope they get careless...so far nothing. I think they have done this before |

That sucks totally. Living with a cop has the added security of the car parked in the driveway, but a few of our neighbors have been hit recently. I've had plans to get cameras up for a while and at the very latest I'll have them up the day my room mate moves out.
Homeowners insurance gonna cover it, or you gonna fork up for replacements? Only good news would be black friday's this week so no better time to replace them. _________________

pyrocasto, $1000 deductible so we're not going to use it (work laptop is separate). So for now, I'm stuck with a laptop running Windows XP with less than half the hard drive space (30GB) as my 5 year old iPod (80GB).
Good thing I don't have many finals this semester because I don't have any notes either.
Does anyone know how Time Machine works? I backed up my personal laptop probably 2 or 3 months ago. To get all that info off of my external, do I need another identical or nearly identical MacBook or can I hook up any computer to it and get the files off easily? I'm sure I can just get the files off like a USB drive, but if/when I do get another MacBook, will it be as easy as pressing "restore" and having a 3 month old version of my personal laptop back? |

LFADAM, from Apple:
| Quote: | Migrating a Time Machine backup to a new Mac
When you get a new Mac, you can transfer all of your applications, files, settings, and other information from a Time Machine backup you've already made. When you start up your new Mac for the first time, the Setup Assistant asks you if you would like to restore from backup. If you've already set up your new Mac, you can use the Migration Assistant (located in Applications/Utilities) to do the same thing.
After Migration Assistant completes the transfer and you select your existing Time Machine backup drive, you will be prompted with "Inherit Backup History". Once selected you will be able to continue to use your existing Time Machine backup on your new Mac. |

Pretty sure time machine grabs your /applications folder along with your /library and /user folder.
Anyhow, it should bring it all back... _________________
