scott a, flip the phone to landscape. You will see the camera icon appear.
Yeah, and sometimes I'm seeing a smaller camera icon if I have my phone in landscape mode and lock it, then turn the phone to portrait mode and turn the screen back on. I'm guessing this is just the same icon from the landscape mode, but redrawn in a smaller size.

As for the rest - I use Trigger (formerly NFC Task Manager) to do profile changes/automation where Moto Assist misses the mark. Assist does a really good job of doing the basics (phone silence, do not disturb, etc), Trigger steps it up a notch allowing for more intricate tasks (like app launching based on situations). Still nothing beats Tasker, but you really need root access to make it shine.
Yep...I'm in the same situation. I have three profiles set up for Trigger and there's a 2x1 widget on my homescreen. Ideally, Cover will eventually take its place...but realistically, I'd need to roll up my sleeves and dig into Tasker to integrate the two, or create a workaround.

Eh, at this point if someone wants your location they're going to take it without asking. Privacy is gone with electronics these days.

For a long while I left the location tracking turned on just to see if I would even use it for anything...and I didn't. It could be useful for a 'year in review' sort of thing, but I doubt many people (if any) care about where I've traveled this year. I used it as a tool once, and even then half the reason why I used it was to see if it would actually give me any useful data (it did). But when I got my update to 4.4 the location settings changed and I decided to turn it off. I think I'll turn it on when I leave town for vacation/camping/etc just in case my crew finds some cool drinking spot or hiking trail or whatever, but for every day stuff I never found a use for it.

1245 the day after and still no 4.4 love. What a tease. Staged rollouts suck! I want it NOW.

Monday, 730PST. No Kit Kat.

Apple can roll out device updates to tens of millions at once, but Verizon can't roll out an update to all 150 of us who own the Maxx? lame.

It took me forever to get the OTA for 4.4 on my N7 as well. Can you manually update? I've been running cm11 on my n7 for a while and I like it so far.

Check reddit and XDA. When my N4 was up for the Kit Kat update there was some weird code I put in to the dialer that would supposedly give me 'front of the line' permissions. Next day the OTA was ready as soon as I connected to wifi.

I did. The only option right now is to side load the rom, but i tried and it won't work in recovery unless you are rooted. I ran out of time, but I could get it via adb, but Ive got other crap to do.

As of right now, I still don't have 4.4

scott a, what you did only works on Nexus devices. You could stop google credential services then restart and you would get the OTA update.

I've looked into it enough to know that it's on my list. Though I haven't had a chance to really sit down and learn much.

Also, this is a very long info-graphic so I'm going to leave it as a link, but it's a great visualization of why it takes so much longer for "carrier devices" to get their OTA updates than Play Edition or Nexus devices.

I installed cm11 (kit kat) on my phone this weekend. Not much of a difference. I really like that with GEL google now just a swipe to the left on the homescreen instead of having it in the search. I also like the new look of the music player on the lockscreen.

Still no kit-kat love here. FWIU, there were some problems during the soak, and they just stopped it without telling anyone. *sigh* Rolling Eyes

Edit: Punit Soni in a G+ feed has said they hope it's back out "within days".

I am finally getting KK right now. Almost a month after announcement.

Whatever the issue was, they certainly aren't sharing.

I wish there were some tap2pay things here. I'd do that as well.

Talon For Twitter is one hell of a solid app and is well worth the $2.

Nice little app if you can disable/hide the battery in the status bar.

I'm probably going back to Nova today. I am trying to create "situational" home screens (work, home, car, by the pool, etc), but GEL just isn't flexible enough (can't adjust the grid, resize widgets, etc) for me to get this how I like it.

I'm kinda loving Power Toggles right now. It allows you to make quick select toggles for things, it also puts 2 toggle bars (16 total switches) into the notification drawer. It is also available on the lock screen. Extremely useful IMO.

wakeboarderdave1, are you talking about Power Toggles or are you talking about things like adjusting the grid/resize widgets?

I meant power toggles.

On stock, can you modify and have these tiles do something(ex. Clicking BT actually turns it on/off)?

I can also show the quick access ribbon (add and remove toggles here as well) in the notification drawer.

I can't modify those settings stock. There are no settings available.

Power Toggles fills in the gap for me without root.

Did you end up with a N4 or N5?

I'm still using a gs3. I'll probably keep it until my at&t contract is up next year and then maybe switch to straight talk. $45/month sounds very nice.

You can on Kit Kat.

Long press = turn on/off
Short press = opens to settings page

Can't remove or re-order them, though.

So I am not amused with the sale of Moto Mob to Lenovo. Time will tell what Lenovo does, but IMO Moto is on the right path, and is making better devices (Nexus aside) than the competition, they just needed more of Google's muscle behind it - and they needed the Maxx available on all networks (yes you can swap SIM but it's only sold by VZW).

Google did the opposite of what they should have done here. They should have CRUSHED Samesung and made Moto the premier line for Android.

Tizen is crap, Samesung knew it, that's why they pushed so hard for this kind of deal to happen. Google is stupid for caving now. They had a HUGE winner with the G, it could (and might still) cause serious disruption into emerging markets. Samesung only wins there now due to their cheap ass piece of sh*t phones. The G blows away almost all of their "competitive" offerings.

Here's to hoping Lenovo makes the Moto lines the "Thinkpad" of mobile. Not Atrix style, but Maxx/X style. This Maxx is by far the best phone I have owned, it's not even close.

Chavez, agreed. My first thought yesterday when I saw that was WTF? It sounds like project Aria is staying at google. Hopefully Lenovo just lets Moto keep on it's current path (same name/product/etc, new owner).

If I was buying a phone today, I'd have a hell of a time picking between the X and N5.

Not me. I'd buy the N5. The N5 will have support a year from now. Who the hell knows what's going to happen with Moto, and that uncertainty would steer me away from their devices for now.

Yeah, I'd get the N5 without much consideration for the X.

Hopefully Moto's 'internship' at Google will mean that they continue down the same trajectory as the current Maxx/X/G, but I guess we'll see how Lenovo decides to approach it. Being a Chinese company I'm sure that they'll really attack the lower/mid end market w/ the G.

And hooray for the patent agreements that have been announced recently (Lenovo gets a license to the Moto patents that Google owns, Samsung and Google agreed to cross-license patents).

scott a, I think the bigger part of the Sammy/Goog arrangement is that Sammy is going to ditch some of their duplicitous apps in favor of the Goog versions. I mean, do I really need S-Voice or the Samsung version of the calendar? The answer is a simple NO. If they want to develop their own apps, make them user uninstallable and available in the Play Store. If people want them, they will keep them.

TouchWiz needs to die in a fire.

Its already been mentioned/rumored that Samsung was going "back to the basics" with the S5. The article mentioned that Samsung would be focusing on the core of the phone and hardware and not so much on the other junk that they've packaged their phones with up until now. But of course that may just be a rumor/wishful thinking on the reporter's end. I think I read this a week ago or so...

I will say that my coworker just got a gnote 3 and that thing is so bogged down with all its software "enhancements" that I'd never consider buying one.

That's basically what I thought about the S4. It had all the specs, but the bloat completely ruined it. Obviously CyanMod fixes that, but I digress. With the Note, you need some of the overlay BS to make the stylus stuff work, but it comes at a price.

It looks like google now has reached chrome beta. I would like to see it get moved to the new tab window. Or maybe be able to dock it in gmail as well.

wakeboarderdave1, I can confirm it's there. You may need to go to chrome://flags and enable it though. I am using Beta 33.0.1750.58.

I agree it would be more useful elsewhere as mentioned.
