So I got my hands on one to futz around with on Friday. I have a couple of initial thoughts:

1) screen size - this is a DUH thing, should have been done 2 generations ago. Not unlike pretty much every current Android phone you cannot reach all of the screen with a normal size thumb. Still. This is pretty much the sweet spot. I think the 5.0 on my current S4 is ever so slightly too large, but 4.7 like the iPhone and the 2013 MotoX (and the new Z3 compact) are right on.

2) form - phone NEEDS a case, or like some pine tar or something. It's a sleek package, very premium look and feel as you'd expect. But it's as if they buttered it up from the factory just to mess with everyone.

3) camera - excellent. It may not pack the MP of some competitors, but it still takes better pics than pretty much everything but the Nokias. The "special" features are commonplace now, so Apple needed to implement. SloMo, Pano modes work as advertised.

4) not iP6 specific - but having Swiftkey on the iPhone or Pad is very nice. It will only get better when more custom layouts are added. This has been a long time coming!

5) also not iP6 specific - the new quick launch/recent contacts is sweet. It's about the fastest way I've seen short of having a direct shortcut/widget to dial someone. I know others have done similar, but this is a very good implementation.

All in all, there is nothing groundbreaking here. Still, it's an excellent device and iPhones will remain what I recommend to pretty much everyone I support. For me, I'm going to stay on the Android side as 5.0 "L" is looking pretty damn sweet.

Spent some time with the 6+ yesterday. First thing.... dat screen... WOW. It's easily the best I've ever seen on a smartphone/tab/phab. To my eyes anyway, the color saturation is insane. i've seen the 1440p screen on the G3 and while it is really nice, it just doesn't have that feel of depth that you get when looking at a fantastic screen. The closest thing to it I've seen is the screen on my MBPr15.

Landscape mode is dope. I can force this kind of mode on my Android devices, but it never works flawlessly. On the 6+ it works flawlessly.

That camera is nutty. I took some shots at the park late (twilight) and they came out great every time. OIS is a major factor here - I am not the steadiest hand. The closest I've seen to it is using my Nikon DSLR with VR on. Pic quality is not going to be the same, but being able to get a shot without hassle in near any condition is great. It's easily the best I've seen short of the Lumia 1020.

As for #bendgate the 6 seems as sturdy as anything else out there. The 6+ in theory might be easier to bend due to more surface area, but in hand I don't see people bending it very easily. Methinks the people who have bent them are full of crap about how exactly they bent. FWIW, there are plenty of reports of the iP5 bending as well, but it's not new and hot so that is being overlooked. If I'm Apple, I'm not blindly replacing these under warranty unless they can prove they bent under normal circumstances - and that is doubtful.
