I water tested a 2008 Mobius and was concerned about one thing. The dealership had a bit of fun (not sure exactly what they meant) getting the boat to run before I got there because of the old fuel in the tank. It has 80 hours on the clock and yesterday was the first time it had been in the water since last summer. Towards the end of the test ride of 30 minutes, (we spent time observing the effect of ballast and plates on the wake shape, making sure everything was working) the boat engine sounded like it backfired or coughed several times just two or three times, the salesman said it was because of the blended fuel that had been left in the tank for the storage period.

Should this be a concern?

It should be. Make them drain the tank and replace the fuel with fresh fuel and then you'll do another trial. If they won't or it still doesn't run right then walk.

I'd not be overly concerned but do make sure they put it right before you take delivery. Get them to fox it and then head back out on it to check it.

Could be bad fuel, could be bad timing but you won't want to be fixing this yourself.

What motor? I would doubt old fuel is the issue.
