Google recently blocked local file playback on android. So the only things that work are netflix, youtube, google movies and google music. You'll also need the chromecast app for setup.

If you're using chrome on a mac or pc you'll need this app.

I should have mine monday or tuesday. Really sucks about it's limitations now, but I have a feeling it will come back soon enough.

FINALLLYYYYYYYYY

http://chrome.blogspot.ca/2014/02/chromecast-is-now-open-to-developers.html

What does everyone want to see? Not sure if this is doable, but I'm hoping for a badass customizeable homescreen. Widgets galore, custom news tickers (RSS feeds?), spotify playlist, etc. Just turn my TV on in the morning and everything is there for me.

Oh, and multi-player trivia. Everyone can answer questions via their own devices.

I am trying to decide between the Chromecast and the new Roku stick. Anyone have any suggestions? Can I stream whatever I want from my phone to the Chromecast?

The creator(s) of the Android app Allcast are working on that now. Google is also working on a beta of Chrome (Android) that will do tab-casting just like the desktop app.

Here is the list of currently supported apps. And the source data: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromecast

That's a pretty decent list for iOS. Better than I thought it was anyhow.

It would be for streaming from iPhone / iPad. No porn on that list, may have to do Roku Very Happy Which would you guys go with? The new Roku streaming stick is due out 4/15.

churchy, the Chromecast API has gone public, so it's merely a matter of time before pr0n apps exist that can be sideloaded to Android devices or available in Cydia to jailbroken iOS devices.

You can also stream any of your ripped or downloaded movies to it. Just open the Allcast app and choose your video.

That said, you can stream from Chrome (Windows or Mac) anything you want. Just open a tab, and hit the Cast button. Bam! Virtual fingers in th... well you see where I'm going.

OK, porn aside, I am thinking about seriously downgrading my sat. programming. The only channel I think I would miss is AMC. But, I believe I can get those shows on Hulu. so... which would you get for general use, chromecast or roku stick?

eeven73, I feel the same way. I recognize half this stuff on my TV box when I bought it but I have no idea what it does.

I think chrome would be a yes, if you are tab casting, which I would recommend you do in an incognito tab.
