I'm still on this Advocare diet, but I'll be cycling off of it in a week. It comes with meal replacement protein packets, but they only have like 24 grams of protein per packet. I usually take the EAS Myoplex packets, and I'll be jumping back on those at the end of next week. I just loaded back up from www.bodybuilding.com, because they have the 20 packs buy 2 get 1 free ($90 shipped for 60 packets).

I like the EAS stuff, because it has only 300 calories, 21 grams of carbs, 42 grams of whey protein, and then a bunch of vitaimines and minerals.

What kind of protein do you guys take, where do you get it, and how much are you spending?

Fixed part of it, because I eat the whole egg......

My wife buys the Dymatize Nutrition Elite Whey Protein Powder and every once in a while(not regularly), I make a drink with that....

per usda:

Egg, yolk, raw, fresh (1 large) (1 large (17g))
Calories: 54, Total Fat: 4.51g, Total Carbs: 0.61g, Protein: 2.7g

Egg, white, raw, fresh (1 large) (1 large (33g))
Calories: 17, Total Fat: 0.06g, Total Carbs: 0.24g, Protein: 3.6g

i don't avoid yolks, but i don't buy them either. 3/4c of egg whites w/ my oatmeal every morning.

i'm currently using syntha-6 isolate for my protein supplement. it's not as tasty as the regular syntha 6, but it's got more protein, less carbs and less fat. plus, i've started adding in a ton of vitamin c, dried greens and a couple of other supplements like glucosamine and l-carnatine, so it's not going to taste good to begin w/. i just use less water and slam it, then drink another 20+ oz afterwards.

What are you pointing out here, the calorie difference from the fat? At first glance you get almost a gram more protein from removing the yolk, lol. 33g vs 17g I guess, funny comparison though. I'm an egg and oats guy too. I make a gorilla batch of steel cut oats on the weekend for the week.

I supplement with Optimum Nutrition gold standard. ~50 bucks/5 lb tub with 70-some servings.

1 scoop:

i'm pointing out that while the protein difference is only 1g, an egg yolk has 3x more calories and 4.5x the fat, so if you're trying to use eggs for protein while avoiding fat/calories, then whites is the way to go vs whole.

Yeah way more than 4.5x, especially if you go gram for gram on the portion size. You buy egg beaters or have some other means?

I'm a yolk eater mainly because i'm too cheap to buy egg beaters and too lazy to separate. I get the free range omega-3s as well. I think if I didn't yolk it, I'd probably make up for the fats covering my eggs in butter or cheese.

i buy the egg whites - not egg beater brand, but the local grocery store brand (i like the consistency better). roughly $4 for a week's worth of breakfast.

i was separating forever before i broke down and just started buying the whites. too easy to do now that i'll never go back. plus - less trash. only time i buy eggs now is for recipes.

I get my proteins from:

3 egg whites and 1 whole egg
Oatmeal
Chicken
Canned tuna
Greek yogurt
Cottage cheese
Red meat (1-2/week at most)
Turkey (sliced or ground)
Natural crunchy peanut butter
Almonds
PMD Amplify XL Whey Isolate Protein shake- Double Chocolate Explosion flavor. It is sold only at some GNC stores, not all of the chain stores-just certain ones. There are probably better brands out there that are cheaper or give you more of something or less of something else but I've tried so many protein supplements that I've determined that there aren't a lot of major differences to where I need to choose based on them. I'm not competing as a bodybuilder or anything. So I choose them based on taste.
EAS Whey Isolate Protein shake- Vanilla. See above.

I use the protein shakes both as a meal replacement during the day (I make one of the Amplify shakes and drink half in the morning and half in the afternoon) and as a recovery drink from weightlifting. I generally don't do recovery drinks after a cardio workout unless it is a light beer after a game of hockey. Very Happy

I seperate my eggs and either use a 2:2 or 3:1 ratio on whites to yolks. We go through more eggs this way, but we buy them local so it's just helping the local guys out. As far as other proteins, we eat chicken several times a week and red meat 1 time at most. I bought a 1/4 hog a couple of weeks ago, so our pork consumption is about to go up.
