Congress passed a bill that allows Monsanto to further penetrate our food supply with GMO's.

RampageWake, the article was written a little weird, IMO, with quote a focus on the shooting and a little about the Monsanto issue.

jt09, maybe so. Mr. Green

pet575, I'm OK keeping the guns and gays...let's send the GMO's somewhere else.

Every food you've eaten is a GMO. It's called evolution. Oh wait... God doesn't let you believe that.

IMO, the GMO isn't necessarily a health concern as much as it is a growth concern. Monsanto's genetic manipulation also purposefully keeps its crops from creating usable seed (it can pollinate, just not seed). This is spreading to farms that do not want this change as they gather their own seed for the next crop. Its spreading a rate that in a few decades, Monsanto will be the only source of usable seed there is, it will only be usable 1 time, and farms will have to buy seed again for next years crop. Its a product that destroys its own competition!

Chad H, sure, everything evolves and changes and natural processes like that are pretty normal. The natural evolution that takes place in plants is not the issue here. The concern is what is happening with these man-made changes and the unknown of how they affect us, along with discoveries that are starting to point towards problems with the GMO's.

jason_ssr, there are growing health concerns, but yeah you are right that the bigger issue, currently, is that this could create one single company that is the supplier of all seed and eliminate the ability to cultivate seed for next year's crop at a commercial level and a personal level. It's a perfect business model and great way to eliminate competition, though.

There are a handful of small farms still getting heirloom plants, but its only a matter of time before they are contaminated and the current seed banks expire. Then, it's literally extinction of naturally grown plants.
