Planning on driving back to Toronto from Florida in mid-April but am taking a detour of 1-2 days on the east coast. Just wondering if anyone can recommend any cool locations to visit. I don't have anywhere specifically in mind to go yet but probably somewhere in the Carolina's since it's about halfway and hopefully won't be freezing cold.

If you're going up the east coast Charleston SC is an awful nice place. If you get out to the western side there are some very nice attractions in the mountains(where I live). Lots of hiking and views to be seen. NC coast can be very nice too with Wilmington area, Beaufort, could take a ferry out to see some wild ponies, Ocracoke. April can be nice but I will tell you ya never know. Especially in the mountains. I've seen 70 degrees on Christmas day and snow on April 1st so it can vary a lot.

I'd be happy to help with any info I can if you have an idea what you might want to see/do.

We spent a week on Sullivan's Island (just outside Charleston) last August. Plenty of historical things to see if that's your thing. We also did some off-shore fishing but depending on where you're coming from in FL, that may not be the best use of your time.

Thanks pyrocasto, , those suggestions are actually pretty helpful - as never having been there before it's a good starting point for ideas of things to do. The wild ponies thing sounds interesting.

fish6942, I had been looking at Charleston area but probably not for fishing as I'll be coming from Naples.

I agree with Pyrocastro. Charleston is really nice and will be pretty warm.

I'm a huge fan of Wilmington/Carolina Beach too. Really fun city that's just the right size. College town+fun downtown+river (that's great for wakeboarding)+beaches. It's a little further north but probably still will have solid weather.

For wild ponies, Eastern Shore of Virginia is the place to go (Chincoteague/Assateague) but there's a very specific time of year to go to see that.

If you're a golfer, there's a lot of good golf around the beaches as well, or the sand hills of NC (Pinehurst).

And who knows...if the Hurricanes get their act together, you may be able to see some playoff hockey for much cheaper than the ACC in Toronto Laughing

If you live in Canada and don't get to the US east coast much I'd probably recommend you visit our capitol, Washington DC.

If you are in SE florida, hit me up...will take you for boat ride. If my malibu operational at that time, you can ride.

That's actually a really good idea that I didn't even think of because I'm going back via Detroit/Windsor. It will be a bit out of the way, but would definitely be a cool area to visit.

Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately I don't wakeboard. Laughing

Good, i don't either...we will actually be able to enjoy ourselves on the boat/water rather than getting pulled around by a rope like a bunch of morons BEHIND the boat. Smile

Ont - if you're planning on stopping somewhere, I'd go through Buffalo instead.

There is really not much to stop and see down the I75 corridor (which is what I assume you'd be taking if you go via Detroit).

Yeah I've done that drive a number of times and it's a snoozefest until you get to kentucky/tennesse. I'm actually flying down from Detroit, so the drive back will be up the coast and then the long route back to Detroit.

Charleston - Husk is my personal favorite. Consistently delicious. There's a new place called The Ordinary that is getting great reviews from friends that live there. It was built into an old bank so it has a good atmosphere and setting. If you're looking for all things pig, check out Cypress. Fig is another great one - but expect to wait.

Savannah - Leoci's pasta is to die for. Have a great happy hour place but need to message my friend - having a blonde moment with the name.
