|
|
Hi Everyone,
I know this is a topic that has been tackled here before, but I am trying to figure what boats I should / realistically can target with my budget.
Budget:
Max 35K
Uses:
Primary- wakeboarding
Secondary- wakesurfing then skiing, tubing,etc.
Lake- not the best water, minimal chop most times
Passengers- 4 to 6 people
Wants:
V-drive, 20-22ft, excellent wakeboard wake
First off I'd like to get a used 2005-06 Malibu VLX or VTX for this price, but is this realistic? I have been looking and haven't seen any inventory in this price range.
If this isn't possible what boats and years should I be targeting? Any help would be much appreciated.

if wakesurfing is a big priority, look for a 23ft boot, not required though.
You'll be buying an older boat and not a lot of older boats have high freeboard like the newer ones, which you'll really want when slamming a boat with ballast to make a good surf wave. It's the first thing I'd change on my 08 vride (00-04 vlx), which would be more freeboard. |

Thanks for the thoughts Augie. I had heard that that makes a big difference, but I just can't afford the newer ones. That said, my biggest concern is the wakeboard wake so I guess I should move wakesurfing into a secondary use. |

Get a super air nautique 210. 2004 model maybe a little newer will be in your price range. I got a 2006 Supra Launch 22ssv in that price range _________________ Wakeboard as much as I can. I love cable and boat riding, couldn't live without either of them. I am always asking for advice and always wanting to get better |

you don't need a 23 foot boat to be able to surf behind it.
Top three boats IMO to look at are what you're looking at from the sounds of it.
Mastercraft X-2 2005-2001
malibu VLX 2005-2001
SAN 210 2004-2001
i have an X-2 (for sale)
The x-2 (205v hull) would be perfect for what you're looking for. IMO best wakeboard wake still, surfs well, you can dump the weight out and get an ok ski wake with a little bump at 33 mph.
Malibu, probably surfs better then my x-2 but i prefer my wakeboard wake hands down.
The SAN 210. Nice boat, solid. _________________ Don't do anything rash.....and don't do anything to get a rash... |

There's an '06 vlx in knoxville, tn on craigslist for 39.9k. I got the guy down to 37k for a friend, who decided he didn't like the color. It has some gel damage and a stitch that needs to be repaired, but nothing major. |
