Two weeks in to my little blog experiment and thought I'd inject a little of my nerd-ness in to things and see how that works. If you don't feel like reading, it's basically an article about how it may be possible in the future for wakeboard designers to use 3d printing as a crazy awesome tool for product development. It's a long-ways off, but I think a really interesting thing to think/talk about. What do you think? Is this a possibility? Would you like to see it or do you think wake should stick to hand-shaping/design in to mass production. What about if these are someday affordable at home? How sweet would it be to buy a deck online, print it in your garage, and go for a ride the next day?

Dude you've been busy. Let us know when you have a new article.

Wonder if any manufacturers are already looking at the possibilities you describe. Sounds cool!

That's not as far off as you might think. Additive manufacturing is the future of things to come, take it from a current mechanical/aerospace engineering student

BigBadWolfe, I know the tech will be there soon, but it's probably going to take a while to trickle-down to regular use in the wake industry, especially at the level I imagine it could be. I can see it being used for small one-off plastic pieces here and there pretty soon for sure.

FlyZone CR, Thanks! Trying to hit updates every Mon, Wed, Fri for as long as I can keep it up (I find I write a lot though so may have to tone it down to twice a week). Put one up this morning but it's not that exciting, just a few tips if you want to hit a Liquid Force Free for All cable park event.

Yea I don't see wake companies selling the cad file for at home "printing" but I can see demoing a board then 3d scanning it. Almost like pirating movies/music Smile

BigBadWolfe, 3D pirating is going to be a VERY interesting beast once the tech gets there. Remember the old pirating commecials? "YOU WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD A CAR". Sure we wouldn't, just because it's not possible.... yet.

wolf is correct - not that far off, I would keep your eyes on the 3 d printing - toured a print shop two weeks back and was presented with some wild 3d samples printed on some interesting media
