At your graduation? Whether it be highschool or college?
Reason im asking. I skipped my HS grad b/c I couldn't of cared less about walking. My brother skipped both his HS and College walk.
Finishing up my last semester at college I had to apply for graduation. I really dont care about walking but because my brother who is my only sibling didnt walk at either I feel like I owe it to my mom to walk.
For those of you who walked was it satisfying? I personally feel like its a waste of money (cap gown) and time (my last name starts with a W so ill be towards the back). _________________ Random Acts Of Dumbness Will Always Be Rewarded. |

shaggyboarder, it's for you, but not really. It's for your family. I say it's almost universally a good idea to do whatever makes your mom happy. Walk, let them take lots of pics, and enjoy the moment with your fam. _________________

Just walk. It is only half a day and it will make Mom happy. The pics will be neat to have around to show your kids ect. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em... |

pro tip: if you say you are going to walk, make sure you make it.
my little brother got so shltfaced the night before that he missed his own graduation. had at least a dozen family members that had flown in to see it (durango, co is no easy spot to get to, either). my mom was devastated. the only thing that saved him from her wrath was the fact that i couldn't help myself w/ glee at how bad he'd f*d up, which completely enraged my mom before she could even get home to yell at him. |

I'm still deciding if i will walk next spring. I'm at the point where I don't want to, but at the same time, sending out all those invitations=$$$$.
Not too sure yet. Time will tell. |

Anyone who doesn't want to walk is being selfish. Your family supported you and is proud of you. They want to see it happen and so you should make it happen, no questions axed. _________________

It's all about what momma wants. I walked at both HS and college. College I tried to get out of but I'm kinda glad I did walk, it was definitely my moms choice though haha. My parents, one sister, and my niece came down for a vacation and to see me walk so it was nice. |

Didn't know I had the option in HS so I did. As for college I had to transfer after my scholarship ran out, finished school while working full time after that and did not walk as I completed my final units at a different university. _________________ If I agreed with you we would both be wrong. |

Skipped them both.
For my college graduation, which was outside, I was in an empty dorm room in a building that overlooked the graduation ceremony outside, making sweet, sweet and somewhat defiling love to my soon to be ex girlfriend.
Much better than walking across a stupid stage. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide

HS Yes, College, NO. I asked my mom what she prefered. She said she didn't care if I walked. I think it was going to cost $150 or something for the cap and gown, plus $25 for walking, plus invites. I didn't want to give another dime to my university at the end. Also, they wouldn't let me lead in the band at the big ceremony at the tower, so I not interested at all.
(side note) - I was the UT mascot, so leading in the band would not have been strange.
All she wanted to do was go with me to the big graduation ceremony and take pictures there. She wanted to get a picture of me with the tower lit. _________________ Work SUX! |

Yup I feel the same way. They are charging me 30$ just to apply for graduation. Talk about a rip. Grinds my gears how much they charge for everything. _________________ Random Acts Of Dumbness Will Always Be Rewarded. |

I walked for college graduation just for my family, I would have rather slept in but they were excited. They've supported me my entire life and raised me well, why not give them that one last official send-off as a small way to say "thanks". |

High school - Yes... thought I had to in order to get the diploma. If I had known otherwise I wouldn't have.
College - No... I don't think my mom really cared for the ceremony either. When my brother walked for his graduation I remember we arrived late, my mom snapped a picture when he walked up, and then she says 'alright let's get out of here' |

I walked in HS because everyone did, ill be graduating college in spring of 2014 at age 27 with a wife and first child will be approaching or already 1 yr old. Haven't decided if walking will be weird but will have certain family members pushing for it. What do you guys think in that scenario? |

dbismyname, I dont think it will be weird at all. Ask wifey... If she wants to see you walk then i would do it... plus no matter how old you are, your parents still see you as their kid and would most likely want to watch you. _________________ Random Acts Of Dumbness Will Always Be Rewarded. |

HS - Yes, College (two degrees) - No
Though it wasn't that important for me or my family for college and because of when I officially graduated (after fall quarter/semester both times) it was inconvenient to go back six months later. Especially considering in both cases I was living on the other side of the country when June rolled around. _________________

Seeing as I was the first in my family (immediate and extended) to graduate from college, it was probably the right thing to do. |
