Well, my wife and I had our second daughter in July. This makes 4 between the two of us. We have decided it it enough and we are too old to do this again.
Well, she's too old to do this again....
Anyway, condoms suck, and she got pregnant the last time while we were using an IUD. So, it's tubal ligation or a vasectomy....
Several things though...
1- I've been reading some questionable "research" that suggests that the presence in sperm might have a biological effect on the woman receiving it, and the lack of sperm might induce a level of hormonal un-attraction. In other words, her body can tell you are sterile and she subconsciously starts to desire fertile males. VERY questionable... but still
2- when my sperm backs up with no exit, is there any chance that it will cause any discomfort or any other unexpected issues?
3- I am extremely medical-procedure phobic. I can't even read the whole wiki page on vasectomy without getting lightheaded. If we decide I'm the one to get it done, I'll man up like I always do, but I'm really anxious about the whole bit.
However, there are more serious risks involved with the tubal ligation than with a vasectomy.
Does anyone have anything helpful to say about experiences with either procedure? _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide

LOL, whoops. My responses are the same, as well. Get 'er done and don't worry about it. I haven't had any issues and don't know anyone that has. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?
Yeah, I haven't done it yet, either. We decided to go the IUD route, but we don't like it. I'm also rolling the dice with health insurance next year (going high deduct) so I'm thinking about doing it before the end of the year while I'm still on the premium plan. _________________ TONA
I've started the process to get it done. Kaiser makes you watch a short video, then follows up with a phone interview to make sure you REALLY want to proceed. I've got the video, and my interview scheduled for mid-month. Once I complete that, they will set my *snipsnip* appointment. _________________
Got it done Monday, piece of cake. Told my urologist (cool guy) about my buddy's story that had went in about a year ago. He thought he should shave down there prior to the procedure, so he shaved it down bald. At the appointment his urologist was like WTF, we're preforming a vasectomy, not shooting a porno! My doc found that hilarious. The nurse asked how many kids I had and was stunned when I said 0, said I was the first one she saw w/o kids in all her time working for a urologist. _________________

Did you take anything before the appointment? Did you drive yourself home? Did you go right back to work? Did you have to sit on ice? Could you jump rope today?
I've got a 2 month break in dirt bike racing after this weekend and I'm thinking I should try to get it done soon.
Yea, I took a Valium, and then another Valium just in case. My wife drove me to/fro. I'd never taken Valium before; it did not affect me very much but it did make me calmer during the process I'm sure. I came home and sent a few emails then crashed into a deep sleep then watched a movie with some peas on my lap just in case.
Fortunately, my wife was very comforting before I went in, sending me reassuring texts like:

I took a valium, They won't let you drive yourself home if you took a valium. Put Ice on it that day and the next. The day after you will feel perfectly fine however you are not don't do anything. After that you can gauge on how much you want to do after 2-3 weeks you are 100 percent back to normal. Don't forget there are still about 10 live rounds in the machine gun before you start to shoot blanks. _________________ There'll be two dates on your tombstone/ And all your friends will read 'em/ But all that's gonna matter is that little dash between 'em...

Your insurance company makes you watch a video, and then they make you talk to someone on the phone?

The over the phone part was just setting the appt and discussing pre-appointment prep. It was with an RN from the urology dept.
The video was just an explanation of the procedure. There were no "action shots" if you get my drift.
I worked from home the day after then returned to normal schedule after that. I was sure to not do any of the heavy lifting for the first few days. I took ibuprofen for any swelling that occurred - I took it a few nights over the next week and only 400mg of it. _________________

Standard procedure for Kaiser - just making sure you understand so ya can't sue.
Even more of a pain in the arse if they wanted a vasectomy done when undergoing a Lap Hernia repair. 2 birds 1 stone and the Urologist were more than happy to let the general surgeon do that job.
Urologist I use to work with @KP - " it's just a little prick" _________________
8824, dude - I suck. You were right.
.
No, typical the rest of you. Because a private company is involved, it's fine for them to ask you if you are sure you want it done.
If the gov't was asking any kind of personal questions, most of you would be waving flags and talking about joining the tea party. _________________ I walk 47 miles of barb wire, I got a cobra snake for a necktie, a brand new house up on the road side, and it's made out of rattlesnake hide
I am not supportive of any of the quadruple check cover your ass nonsense that goes on in either the private sector or public.
Like on a Bubb Rubbing mortgage when you sign a page acknowledging that you signed a previous page. Waste of time and money all in the name of cya. _________________ Is President Obama a Keynesian?
