Okie Boarder, it appears that it would work well for that. Maybe not a tarantula, but your average house spider should be very much dead after getting blasted with that.
The salt is killing them twofold - both by impact, and by drying them out. Even if they don't flip over and die right there, they won't survive long with all that salt on them.
