Hello everybody!

I have wakeboarded for a couple seasons now and I'm finally going to buy my FIRST boat - small budget style. At least my own boat. An upgrade will follow in 2 or three years, hopefully...

Ok, the boat I'm looking at is a Malibu Euro F3 LX 215 Mystere with a newly rebuilt Mercruiser 350ci with 650cfm Holley carb and a Borg-Warner tranny.

Now I wonder if this type boat puts out a decent wake and how it handles with a wakeboarder in tow and probably a lot of ballast.

Correct amount and placement of ballast seems to be key for getting the best wake out of a any type boat hull, as far as I have learned on this forum... Now what kind of ballast would be the most appropriate and how much I should use? And at what line length will the wake be best with the ballast it needs to be the possibly biggest with the best shape?

I know I can try out all this myself, but if any of you have suggestions I would very much appreciate it, for this would give my season a great launch Smile

If I remember correctly, this boat has the built in swim platform? I can tell you thay my '92 Sunsetter throws a knee high wake with 1300 lbs of ballast. 500 on each side of the engine and about 300 in the ski locker.

I used to ride in a friends Euro F-3 but it has been about 5 years ago and we put in a 500lb sac in place of the back seat and with 4 people and it was a respectable wake. Back then, most people (including us) just didn't put more than 1 or 2 sacs in a boat. I remember the wake being pretty clean, but not giant, but hey, I thought it was the 'bomb' back then.

Thanks a lot for your support, it's very much appreciated! Sorry for me laggin behind with the answer, no time at work and my private PC was down for a while, but now I have it fixed and it's working again.

I will definitely keep in mind what you said about amount and placement of ballast in an F3. I think I will get either three sacs (one on each side of the engine and one in the bow + some lead plates in the back for lateral trim also, if needed) or a fat seat and one sac in the bow. I hope the latter combination wouldn't put to much stress on the hull. I would maybe favour the solution with the fat seat in the back, because this way there will be more room in the boat.

I will also add a tower w/boardracks. A friend of mine has a steel shop and he offered me to build me a stainless steel tower to my desired specifications (which I'm trying to figure out right now).

My dad has one and I (thewakeboarder in the family) thinks it puts out a pretty awesome wake!!!! His is an 89 and it still looks like all the inboard boats on the water!!!!!!! Very Happy

I have a malibu euro f3 sunnsetter 201 which is very close to your boat and the previous company who owned the boat rode it slammed. ( rubrail right at the water.) They said it was one of the only DD that would throw a great VD wake. Im no where near as experienced or good as they were so I ride with seven people on the boat 400 hard weight hidden in the back under the seats and a 400 in the bow. It throws a very nice consistant wake behind it. When we only have a few people i put an extra 350 on each side of the motor. Only 1-3 people another 350 behind the motor. You will want to get a better prop when running this much weight or you will have a hard time getting on plane.
