Hey all! Until this summer I had never owned a boat or been on a wakeboard. Had a Seadoo for a few years though.

My name is Tim from Chatham, Ontario, Canada. My spot is Lake St Clair.

I turned 30 this year and for by birthday in June, the wife let me buy a boat. Nothing fancy, we don't have much money. Picked up a 1980 Tempest I/O (non bowrider) with a 4cyl Mercruiser 3.0, on a trailer, turn key ready for $2500. It came with a nice Seadoo tube, and something called a "Wakeboard".

So, long story short, the guys and I set out to make this Wakeboard thing work. It took me a lot of persistence to get up for the fist time. I am a bigger guy so it wasn't easy. I searched Google for help and came across this site. Your stories motivated me to not give up!

Next time out, I got up!!! What a rush! I have been wakeboarding as much as possible for the last 30 days and I can do small jumps (no W2W yet), surface 180's, ride switch, powerslide, and butter slide!

Thank you guys/gals for introducing me to the greatest sport I have ever tried! This is awesome!

I bought my 6 year old son a kneeboard the other day so he could have fun too. After two days of kneeboarding, he asks "Can I try your board?" WHAT? SWEET!

Guess what! He got up too! My 6 year old son wakeboards now too!

NEEDS: faster boat, wakeboard tower, new board, and more practice!

Thanks for letting me share my story, I will be here and contribute any way I can!

Hey timapexcomputer, I always find it more interesting the people that ride behind the smaller, cheaper boats. There's just something different about people riding with what they got, not throwing down the big $$ for fancy boats. Sooo cool that your son wants to ride!! Sounds like your progressing nicely as well, keep up the good progress! Welcome to the forums!

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. Yes the boat is not exactly a "Wakeboard Boat", but it does the trick. Little mercruiser pulled me out of the water with 5 adults in the boat the other day! I though it had no chance. Just a little 17 foot with 6 seats.

The wake at 50 feet out is about 2 feet high with a nice crisp lip when the boat is going straight. The problem is, when the boat is turning even slightly, the lip goes all washy. Next year I am looking in to a better ride Smile

Hey, I learned to get up behind pontoon a couple of years back, it's all we had at the time. I don't regret it though, I got really good at carving and surface tricks, mainly because that's all I could do! Very Happy

No worries, all boats do that. Simple solution: drive in a straight line. Dude just enjoy this boat and learn all the basics properly, should keep you busy for a season or 2.
Welcome!
