Overheating X-Star and what part is this?

I took our '01 XStar out yesterday and was running fine until I noticed it overheating. We had to let it cool down before heading back in. I checked and the impeller seems to be fine, water was getting to it from the lake so it wasn't clogged.
But then today, I found this part sitting at the bottom of the engine compartment. It looks like it has hose connections on each end with o-rings as well, and an electrical connection (part that angles out from side).
Any idea what this might be and is it related to the overheating problem?
I've looked around for open hoses and empty electrical connectors, but nothing was found.

thats a fuel injector. if that was sitting in the bottom, you need to have a GOOD shop check it out. you were prolly running really lean. running really lean = blown up motor. it will also cause it to run really hot.

That's what I was thinking it looked like also, but from the looks of it it's been in the bottom of the boat for a while. I wonder if it wasn't dropped and lost during maintenance at some point?

either way, i would have a shop check it out. you can really hurt your motor if your missing one. is there a strong smell of fuel?

You may need a new thermostat or water pump. Keeping a boat motor cool is pretty simple. Which motor do you have? The 310 or 330 ltr?

Thanks for the info. It definitely looks like a fuel injector. I just don't see how the boat could run with that piece missing. It ran great for 10 minutes the day before and I had it almost wide open (but never checked the temperature).

I have the LTR 330.

I just talked to our local dealer and they said that there's no way a lost fuel injector would allow the boat to run normally. He said that it would have alarmed immediately and would have been spraying fuel all over the engine.
So that means that a lost fuel injector was jarred loose sometime over the weekend...and that the thermostat is most likely the culprit for the overheating.

The thermostats will go bad around 10 years or so in my experience. Real easy fix, just make sure that you clean the old gaskets off real well before you put the new one on. Also, once changed the spring may take a bit of time to settle in, so it may run a little warm or cool at first.
