Hello All,

I'm relatively new to wake boarding and to this site as well. I am an avid snowboarder, used to live in Jackson Hole, WY and worked at the ski resort there. Due to this skillset I was able to pickup wake boarding on my first try on a local pond that incorporates a pulley system to pull riders around on the water instead of having a boat.

That being said, I've only wake boarded once but I want to buy a board so I don't have to pay $40 a day to use crap stuff. Since you're just being pulled around on a pond they have sliders and ramps to keep you entertained. I haven't done these yet pull plan to try this weekend. I've seen that wake boards are available with a standard base and also in a p-tex base that is more targeted for use on sliders etc. Do you guys think it would be better for me to get a p-tex based board since I don't have a boat and will be primarily riding at this pond? Or do those boards sacrifice a lot in terms of how well they ride on open water?

Thanks in advance for the comments!

Boards in general are pretty tough and can stand up to basic slider abuse for a while.

With that said, having a p-tex base won't hurt your riding at all (it may add a few oz. to the weight compared to a similar board but it's not like you'll notice anyway). If you've got the option the durable base might be a good idea if you're mainly riding at a cable park and ramps/rails.
