Not exactly an exciting photo, but the story is good. The LM is in Arizona playing some hockey. FIrst game last night, he scored the game winner with 5:15 left on the clock in the 3rd to beat the LA Jr. Kings. Here he is, entering the ice center a few hours before the game....

Just out of bed, ready to see if they can win another one today.....

Thought this was more than cool..... The Little One had the opportunity to practice with the U14 Lady Lightning Developmental Team last week. The practices are combined with the U14 Lady Lightning in an ADM format, which is good, because when they separate into stations....they can try to get girls of like skill level together....

Anyway, I was a bit anxious to what we were walking into....being that the Little One hasn't turned 8 yet(does this month). She was clearly out sized/skilled/strength by many of the girls.....but held her own in the break out sessions.

After the practice, I ask her if she had fun and she was giddy. I said what was the best part...she responded "The whole thing." It was the first time she has been on the ice & a hockey locker room with just girls and I think that was fun for her. She also knew one of the Lady Lightning Girls, who has a brother on the Little Man's travel team, so she latched onto this "friend" and was immediately comfortable. She has been invited to finish the season practicing with the Developmental Team....which I think we will do. You know I always take pics of this crap..... Laughing

SOOOO strange to see her be "the small kid." Just odd....

Some passing drill....

Waiting....

Crossovers...

YOU DO THIS -

YOU END UP HERE -

Is there any wonder he leads the team in PIM? He's not a goon, he is 3rd in scoring....but.... Rolling Eyes Huge game last week, two top teams....few weeks until playoffs start, trying to get into each others heads.... Good guys CRUSHED!

This......... Rolling Eyes

Last three days the Little Man has been at State Camp.... It is a tryout to go to Regionals ect. They will take 2 D men from his year & watching, he's not going.... Neutral That is okay, great experience against some SERIOUS TALENT. Many of the kids at camp don't play here, but billet with families in areas that have far better hockey than we have locally. Best kid at the camp(in my eyes, but I don't think it is close) would go to our HS, but plays in Colorado. Kid is a MONSTER.

I just went up and watched for an hour yesterday, took a few pics. LM says he is having a great time and enjoys the competition. I can't want to hear what they say in his evaluation. Each kid gets 5 minutes with one of the evaluators. They give the kids an honest look at where their game is at. Evaluators are all brought in from out of State, have no idea who the kids are that they are looking at, kids cannot wear team colors and are given a jersey with an assigned number to identify them.

I am a super proud dad right now. As more of a "let's see how well you skate with these kids", I ask the Little One if she wanted to go to Regulators tryouts(held last weekend). She said sure, but I could tell as the day crept closer, she was a bit anxious. Figured the 3 sessions would be great ice time against travel competition. She has not aged up into travel level yet, still having one more year in Mites and we do not have Mite travel here....but I figured her skill and size would allow her to compete, so off we went.

Drills.....

Listening to instruction....

Pooped.....

She was the only girl at tryouts and I received the call offering her one of the 15 skater slots.... Very Happy

Thank you.... I don't think we'll take the slot.... It is A LOT of ice time and travel for an 8 year old(she'd be 9 half way through the season) & she has some other interests that would pay the price with that type of commitment.... Let alone traveling around following her brother....assume we'd have to do split family traveling on occasion, which would suck.

There is another Squirt travel team that she has been skating with this Summer at a Spring Ice thing and they have ask her to come to tryouts, so we may do that as well.... We may also go visit with a kind of psudo-travel team here locally and see what options are available there....

It's all fun, whatever she wants and puts a smile on her face....we'll just follow along.

Heh, my kid used to love building towers like that, but only to knock them down. With the help of a stool (and sometimes mom/dad) we'd build them out of mega bloks to about 6' or so. Then he'd bash into it and make it crash. Good times. Cool

He used to be more destructive, but now he wants to build them "big, ohhhh, big," although its still fun to demolish them sometimes too.

EJ, congrats. Even though you aren't taking the slot, that is really something for her to be proud of...you too, of course.

Love the lego tower...I used to be the same as chavez jr and just build them so I could knock them down. Same thing with lincoln log houses, tinker toys, etc.

Well, what do I know....the Little One signed with a different travel team than the one above....all boys, all 1-2 years older. Both pups in travel hockey...should be an interesting Fall/Winter/Spring.... Confused

She attended an all girls hockey camp this past week.... Super fun for her.

I was dropping her off for the day, she doesn't look too pleased to pose for a pic for mom, who was pretty concerned about her being at camp all day without us there... (day 2 we went up and stayed, except for a 25 mile bike ride around Park City)

Pics are not great, but fun for me all the same. She told me that during their last time on the ice, they broke up to have a scrimmage and ask her if she wanted to play with the Pee-Wee/Bantams, which of course she jumped at.....Wink

Dry-land training.....

Played a kick ball tournament at the end of the camp, look at that smile... Laughing

Dad doing cool stuff.... While the Little One was at camp, mom and dad went for a bike ride around Park City.... When we were almost done, stopped on Main Street for a recovery beverage....I had 2.... Wink

Though it didn't end like we would have hoped, first travel game of the season is in the books. Saving grace, the Little One was given the game puck as the player of the game.... Not bad for an 8 year old girl playing in a U10 "boys" league..... Wink

Don't mind her lucky purple socks poking out from the bottom....

She'll take the ice with the U12 Lady Lightning on Saturday and try to get the stink of losing off.... Yea, we decided to jump on a second team when ask.... Wink

I'll give you one guess to tell me who scored the "first ever" goal for the newly formed U12 Lady Lightning team....?

Let me know if you need a hint.... Wink

Laughing ....No idea. It's a U12 team, so assume she is just a big 12 year old, biggest kid on the team by a ways. Being that the Little One is only 8, there is a bit of a size discrepancy. Most the girls are not much bigger than LO, she's pretty tall.

She's still technically a U8, but plays up U10 with the boys and U12 for the girls team.

Vegas this weekend for a tournament with the LM, then Aspen next weekend for a tournament with the LO....

.....and just for the record, I am 100% confident that my kids aren't the only ones doing the cool stuff, but I have 81 of 159 photos on this thread..... Laughing STPHNSN23, learn home to post a pic....

I'm 100% okay with that, they fill me with pride and throwing that on the interweb is okay with me....I know that is a drawback for some.

Hell, I'm going to Vegas and Aspen in the next 2 weeks for hockey tournaments, I'm coming back for more!

LM's HS team took another win tonight.... He banged up his wing, not a great situation before heading to Vegas with the Regulatos....

Make that 82 or 160.... Wink
