|
|
Hey guys,
So I'm new to the community but I'm not dropping by just to drop one post asking a bunch of questions and then peacing out. I'm pretty heavily involved in a sports forum (mod for fsu football board) and hate it when people come by and don't participate in discussions.... anyways just wanted to drop a hello before I go into a couple of questions... I didnt want to "mooch" off of your knowledge without the intro
anyway here's the dilemma.
I grew up on a lake, and got into wakeboarding prior to going to college. I would classify myself as an intermediate (can clear wake easily, cut easily, grabs, some 180's and such nothing spectacular), maybe this isn't ya'lls definition of intermediate but I have direct access to a lake again and can spend plenty of time getting better pretty quickly.... anyhow, I have a 10 yr old hyperlite that is a POS now to be honest bc its way to small for me and the bindings are falling apart... anyhow I want a new board / bindings/ and obviously need a new rope
So I have narrowed it down to a couple of options, and I can spend somewhere around 400-500 in total
1) 2011 Hyperlite Forefront with Circuit bindings for 320ish
2) 2011 Hyperlite Forefront with Remix bindings for 290ish
3) 2007 Hyperlite Era - not sure with what bindings its on Craigslist for 185 (would pay 150ish)
Last option I was considering was a Hyperlite Murray Bio with either those Circuit or Remix bindings - 500ish
So I'm 6'2 - 185lbs ... thinking around a 140cm from everything I've read, and I'll be on a four winns 20 footer - not a wakesetter of any sort, non-tower tow
I don't know enough about boards to know what the best deal is, if there is a noticeable diff between technology in boards from 2007 to 2011, or if the forefront is even good. Also the Remix vs Circuit bindings - any thoughts? From all the reviews I've read these boards all get good reviews but I dont know how to seperate them, and I havent been able to find anything on the bindings (I like open toe bindings)
I feel like the Murray Bio board might be too much to drop on a board at my stage.. I also have a little bit of trouble riding switch and toeside cuts which it sounds like the forefront helps with the toeside learning...
anyways, I would really appreciate any advice and thanks in advance
also any advice on a rope? Does it matter as much since a don't have a tower? More? I dont really want to drop 100 on a rope - any suggestions? |

-You are a novice by competition regulations (not that this really matters).
-You should probably ride bigger than 140. You're sorta in the middle. 140 or bigger is fine, but nothing smaller.
-I haven't worked with any of those boards/bindings. Sorry I can't be more helpful there.
-There is a big difference between 2007 and 2011. Boards have gotten a lot lighter and stronger in recent years. No need to buy 2011 though. 2010 boards are awesome and usually a much better deal.
-You should have a no stretch wakeboard rope (as opposed to a ski rope). Don't worry about buying the really expensive ones with the nylon coating. It's not necessary. 60-65 feet of length should be fine for now. _________________ rally to the wake |

I'd be glad to switch to a diff board, just read some things suggesting I should stick with Hyperlite.
I surfed Evo.com for board packages, I was looking at CWB and Ronix also, can you give me some other suggestions. I'm not set on anything at all, the one's above are just what I had found.
Is there a better website to get boards from then evo for the price / quality...?
Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks |

Hyperlite is not a "POS." They definitely make quality stuff, but I have personally always rode Liquid Force, know their products best, and recommend them.
I'd take a good look at the Liquid Force Trip. It is a phenomenal intermediate board. I know semi-pro level riders that ride the Trip, but I used to ride it when I was at your skill level. It is very friendly to all levels of riding versus some pro model boards that will feel very loose, buck hard, etc to intermediate level riders. Bottom line-the trip is perfect for your skill level and you will never outgrow it skill wise. The 142 would be perfect for you. http://liquidforce.com/wakeboards-trip.html
As for bindings, I recommend the LF Transits or the Vantages. Both are medium in the price range but offer very similar support, comfort, and quality of pro model bindings. You definitely do not want to skimp on bindings. I would definitely argue that entry level bindings vs pro model bindings is a way bigger difference than entry level boards vs pro model boards. Go toward the higher end with bindings and the trip will be more than enough board for you. The trip is pretty cheap, and you can always find deals, and as I said the Transits/Vantages are still significantly cheaper than pro model bindings.
BTW-I have always liked www.buywake.com for online board shops. There are plenty of good online board shops, I just have the most experience with buywake and have always been happy with their service. |

buckthis, That's an unfair statement. No need for generalizations like that to new riders if you had a bad experience. |

Jpage, they may be owned by the same parent company but they are 2 very distinct and different brands. For example, they have different board shapers. They are no more alike than Hyperlite and Ronix |

Get a board with "pop" CWB Db9 or Ronix One! Everone seems to like the Harley,All boards are Not the same. Oh yah, I had a bad experience with hyperlite, Every Time I Ride one. hyperlite sucks IMO. _________________ Live to Ride, ride to live |

Crw04d, never let anyone tell you that any company is the BEST or the WORST. Both are absolute horseshit. Every major board company makes good products and bad products. They're all very different and they all have their merits. It will take you a long time to find exactly what feels good under your feet. I'm still trying to work it out myself.
Demo, demo, demo! If there's a board shop or a cable park near you, demo! Ask people who ride near you if you can try out their boards. I never buy a board I haven't ridden! _________________ rally to the wake |

thanks, I went with the Hyperlite Forefront with Circuit Bindings. I've had a Hyperlite in the past and even though it is a POS now I should have clarified that I'm 26 yrs old and bought it in Middle school and it has been used by 5 cousins... so I expect it to be worn out now, I liked the board growing up though
everything I read indicated this board has quite a bit of pop and helps to develop toeside cuts so it should suit me perfectly
anyhow thanks for the advice guys
